I dont know if Crele and golden Cuckoos Marans are genetically the same thing but they look similar. Some people do have golden cuckoos. I have four of them. 2 girls and 2 boys

Are you talking about mean chickens in general or just mainly mean roosters? What age are these meanies? SOmetimes adolescent roos will go through a hormonal stage where they will challenge you to defend their ladies, food, territory what have ya. Usually they grow out of it, if not they you have to decide if you want to deal with them or cull.

Hi, I have read that it is genetic, so if the behavior is atypical for the breed, it should be culled. I bought some BOrpington eggs, hatched 12 . 3 were hens, all mild mannered. ALL 9 boys were mean - a few from just a couple days old. The boys all went to freezer camp, and the girls were kept just to be layers. Very disappointing, as I had bought and hatched those eggs to improve my stock.

I love NEEM!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever thought of adding effective microorganisms to your list of sprays for the coop? Talk about helping eliminate odors, this stuff is AWESOME! It also inoculates the soil if you have dirt floors and it eats lots of different things in the pooh and soil that cause disease in your chooks. I spray it on everything...walls, floors, nest boxes, perches and everywhere else in the coop that has been touched by pooh.

Hi Pink, can you explain about the "effective microorganisms" sprays? Thanks!

Afternoon everyone! I was out getting some photos of my birds and it just started raining even tho it still sunny out...so I thought I'd load a pic of my favorite solid black girls and a progress pic of Gigantor. I still am in love with that copper color he has. He is standing more upright than usual...mostly cause my mini aussie thought it was necessary to try and herd him back to his pen. You can see how amused he was at that

Oh...and I couldn't get a shot of the other side of his neck cuz of the rain (don't want to risk ruining my nice camera getting it wet)...he was being oh so helpful the other day when I was painting in the barn. He follows me like a puppy...well...he was standing a bit too closely and got white paint on his hackles from the wall I'd just painted. He is such a goof.

thanks Debbi! I'm glad to see he's starting to widen out again after the last growth spurt he had. I think by the time he is done he will be a regular beefcake. I graduated 8 marans pullets (6 bcm, 1 blue birchen, 1 black birchen) up to their pen while it was raining. I'm not sure what they thought about it....but his pen is great for opening up the gate and letting them run out to the lawn and freerange. I purposely don't cut the back lawn grass often because the chickens love their "prairie".

Its been fun watching them all get aquainted.

Gallivina: That is possibly the best copper balance I have ever seen.... Did you make it or hatch it??? I love what you have there.... One could get nitty gritty on a few things maybe (not me though, I am blind now)... The copper blinded me... Nice rooster!!!

OMGosh Vicki...he is a beauty. What kind of chicks does he throw? Do they have good copper color?

I love the hen also.

BTW: Was it you that asked me if I had BLRW's??? If so, I finally posted some pics of my 3 girls over in the Blue Laced Wy's thread.
