The solid blacks and there is one black copper. These are all chicks I hatched from my hens that aren't from "dave" lol. I've haven't had much luck with egg color in the past sadly so the last yr and a half I've. Been trying to improve with a small 4hen flock I had. Yay! I'm so excited!

do you know if all the girls are from the same line? If so, they are probably all Black coppers, but the solid blacks are not exhibiting the copper color...they are overmelanized and a nicely colored roo should help put some coloring on your future girls.

I'm gonna have to see a pic of this egg you are talking about! if you get the egg wet does a darker color show through? If so, what you are talking about might be the 'bloom' on the egg making it look that way

These guys are solid and the came from solid blacks hens now I don't know what their chickes will be like cause the roo they are going to be with is a roo I am leasing from the lady I bought my original marans from she doesn't breed in the fall or winter so one of them gets to come to my house lol

Yea I'm pretty sure its the bloom but I've never seen it look like that except on this one hen...she lays it everytime. I forsure haven't seen this with my brahmas or cochins. Is it common in Marans?

its not uncommon with Marans eggs and will vary in the amount of bloom.

the lady you got the blacks from...did she keep both BCMs and solid blacks in separate pens?

I guess... she kept 1 pen solid blues and blacks and there were a few splash hems in there... but I guess what I don't know is if she bred them solid on purpose. But the ladies I got from her were solid and this is the 3rd generation now of solid chicks

hmmm....if she does keep solids i might be interested in some...all depends on what the breeding stock looks like and egg color etc. solids are hard to find! i dont have a boy for my girls and would like some more solids runnin around. is she reasonable?

She has a closed flock now... I grew up with her daughter. I'm going to be picking up this rooster in the next week from her ill see what she's got. This spring she would NOT sell anything so we agreed upon a lease lol! I know she's been seriously working on a Lavender Marans project... which she said she's never really done a project like this and its what she's focusing on the most @ this point.
