Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

IT'S FRIDAY!

I have a week of vacation STARTING NOW! I got 5 hours sleep. I will pack everything, including a bunch of chickens that I'm hauling, drive down to sis's, probably sit up yacking way too long, get back up at 3:00 a.m so I get get to Sedalia. I decided to show a couple of my black cochin pullets. Saturday will be a long day, especially by the time we get back home. I will be a zombie by Sunday, but I am SO looking forward to it.

I have a couple BCM pullets that are looking NICE. I probably should have shown them, too, but I didn't get them entered, so maybe if they are still looking good in the spring I can make it to a couple of the spring shows to show them then.

I haven't been on here for a few days. I've been so busy. There are 20 pages I haven't read! I guess I will have to go back through them one of these days. It sure won't be today.

Good morning!

Well Vicki, I got your hard freeze here this morning, 28* in the hollow this morning! The huge leaves on my Catalpa tree are falling like rocks!

Maybe it will kill off some of these darned flies and wasps, ooo and my copperheads. It's been the worst year here for bugs, and I've seen two sankes in my yard this year, despite the snake killing cats and chooks. It's been at least 10 years since I've even seen a snake here...until now. Guess it's a good day to winterize the coops and add some straw. Now, I just hope Mr. Copperhead isn't in the straw bale!!!

Yes, that Blue fascinates me. I understand that the Blue Marans is one of the least numerous in the US. I'm hoping s/he turns out to be one that is worth breeding Marans chicks from.

I still am waiting to hear about whether or not we'll be going to Sedalia...its been a rough week around here...and with my hand limited I'm not sure what will end up happening. All I know is that I'm sore this morning

yeah...they are hard to come by....a lot of them...even if they appear to be solid blue are really over melanized and are hiding copper or birchen genes under there....So, hopefully you'll get a solid blue. Test mating is always a good way to test that out

I'm gonna have a few to do that with this next year as well...
