Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Lol....I bet that batch of sweetness comes home a couple chicks lighter after Aunty Lynda gets a hold of them. My money is that she will snag a couple or more of the Barnies...and she will try to snag the splash, but she knows better than that.

oh, by the way, my thinning down birds for winter is going well. I am up to 24 birds going to the sale and haven't even really done much sorting yet. I'm excited to see how things will look after this weekend. I actually managed to snag the time off so I can go to the sale. I haven't gone since I was a kid since I've had to work every time since I moved back to NE...I'm excited. Now just to sit on my hands so I don't bring anything home. Oh...and I have a wee tiny pygmy wether I've been deciding what to do with, and yesterday got a call from a family friend and turns out he might go live at her place to be a companion for her horse that's really old and not getting around too well. I really think that they should do well together as he is just a sweetie

If we lived closer I would have given that little pygmy a home in a heart beat! I love my goaties! Love them I say! Little trouble makers........but I still love them to pieces.

I'll have to get a pic of my wee herd one of these days....I've got 3 carmel does (Ina, Chinook, and Cricket) and this carmel wether boy and Bucky is a dark blue aguti. I've been toying with figuring out breeding schedule to see when it might be good to put Ina in with Bucky. The other two I'll wait til next year to breed. I like waiting til they are 2 with as small as my stock is. I lost one last year from complications....broke my heart, so I'm more precautious than ever now

LOVE the Agouti's (sp?)! I have 2...Mamma Goat and her son Round-up. I would like to get 2 more next year. I also have a Nigerian Dwarf x Carmel Pyg wether, he was a gift and is slightly bigger than the other 2 and the biggest trouble maker of all, but he is also the one that can often be seen with his chicken that rides on his back. Never have my camera when that happens.

yes...your spelling was right..I forgot the O...doh! Hopefully you will will get a pic of the chicken rides! Thats too funny!
I'm hoping to get some really pretty colors out of the caramel x blue agouti mix...Bucky's dad threw pretty much every color you can think of including reds, so I might have some wild colored babies! I just can't wait! The smallest girl, Cricket, is too young to breed but she is a caramel with a white belt and the traditional black accent colors... I love baby animals!!

You lucky girls with your goats! So not fair. I really want a few milk goats (thinking about maybe nubians or la manchas) but trying to see if we can move to a bigger place first. I already have soooo much junk and stuff to move as it is lol. I would love to see pics of yours though

I have a friend in Iowa that's thinking of selling her whole herd of milkers...she and her husband own their own custom hod rod shop and its taking off like crazy which means being gone more often... me thinks you need to move to the midwest! haha

Ohhh a hot rod shop sounds fun too lol. I love muscle cars !!! Yes it was much easier to find livestock in the midwest. There is one place about an hour or so from us that has baby milk goats in the spring so I might go that route but then it would still be awhile until I could actually milk them though.
