Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I am going to continue narrowing down and testing everyone I have here until I accquire my new stock.....I guesstimate that I will have only a couple of birds when I get done that are not carrying the comb shtuff.

On the bright side.... I will have nice pretty dark eggs for my eating egg customers.

Thanks Kim! I find it hard to believe that some people that have been breeding the breed for some time, have never seen this before? I have received quite a few e-mails about this. JR the BC has at least a "pleasant?" looking one?

I too was a little surprized about that..but it's out there now and with photos. Hopefully it will be recognized more easily now...but it doesn't reach everyone out there breeding them.

Wonder if I should sell some hatching eggs on ebay....advertised as "Carnation Combed Black Copper and Blue Copper Marans" and post several photos displaying their beautiful "Crown" and see what kind of response I get.

And for those of you just gasping at the thought of what I just suggested above about the Carnation Combed Marans.........I was being COMPLETELY SARCASTIC!!!!!!!!!!

Kim, I bet you if you post eggs on ebay for sale with the Carnation Comb, side sprig notation you will get bids. The powers to be have kept this little secret hush hush for a long time.

On another note to everyone running to buy the Birchen Marans have you ever wondered what is being mixed in to get the Birchen color, and even the no Shank feathering, Just another example of another disaster waiting to happen.

All this time I was of the belief that the MOA was the parent group, Just can not believe I am usually wrong about stuff like this.

I'm willing to accept what ever happens with the Birchens...they are just going to be a project...you know something to play around with. I think with their lighter egg color that it will be fun experiementing with and trying to darken it.
