Just curious...did you get the Canadian model or the American one????

It's the American machine through the one and only Canadian supplier.

Just did a big photo-shoot with all the surviving kids. Nothing like chicks to cure what ails a girl. The 11 that I do have appear to be thriving. I have MUCH to be thankful for!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving, Mel!!!! Hope you are eating well tonight ....

I'm excited to see more pics of the babies!!

A couple of days old and the Cuckoos are looking MUCH more distinctly male and female. That pleases me. (The big yellow spot is getting bigger and a VERY blue body.)

Anybody have any advice on guessing at Silkie sex early on????

Funniest thing- one of the BCMs is CONVINCED that black 5th toe on the Silkie is a worm .... could get interesting

on the cuckoo male....do you mean kind of a silver appearance? That's a good thing!

No advice from me on silkies...I know lots of people love them, but just not me

Hops & Barley, Honey...Hops & Barley....I will consume MASS QUANTITIES of food at Pinkchicks' house tomorrow. I just wish all our BYC friends could be there to SEE THE SPECTACLE or BE THE SPECTACLE! ( I will have my camera!)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I lurk here . . . I have FBCM.

Barn GOddess, you keep good notes and use them well. Have you considered the so-called "dry hatch method"? See CHooksCHicks BYC page for details.

Moisture can come from the egg, the ambient moisture or the wells. It's the increasing size of the air cell (or the rate of weight loss of the eggs) by day 18 that is important. Do you track this? Maybe you already know this. IF not, search for diagrams of air cells using the phrase "Size of air cell on 7th, 14th and 18th day of incubation. Weight loss is about 13%.

Hatch on!!

The air cells on these ones WERE good!!! I was dancing jigs when I candled. The chicks looked good to go at lock down. However, I do feel the humidity was too high for most of the first two weeks. Did they grow too big to pip??? Maybe. I obviously don't yet fully understand how all that works. Not going to be a problem in the future, I hope, because I have a new incubator that will allow me to set a MUCH lower humidity level - which I fully intend to do. I'm a little thrown by the signs of shrink wrapping on the Ameraucanas, however ....

That suggests too dry ....
