haha I'd love to be hatching during the winter, but I need to hold off for at least a while more, plus I've gotta get my seed starting set up ready to go right after christmas. Its a task and a half, but it sure pays off to have all those fresh veggies. After I get the ones that need the longest time to grow I'll work on the hatchin... haha Oh...and I need to get cracking on buiding chickie grow out huts in the garage one at a time and move them outside as I get them done. So, you're probably right...it will end up going faster than I think it will

Pretty eggs!!!!

Nope sorry! It's hard to believe that the eggs not in the carton are almost 3 years old and that fact that the eggs in the carton are only almost a year old and they are waaaaaaayyyyyyy darker. I think it's just crazy that they continue to darken over time. I like to study things like that...call me weird. I'm good with it! I like it that way.

I noticed my eggs in the incubator changed color... they lost the redness and turned very brown like a potato.

I believe it's a fault although I was told the judges would appreciate if they were trimmed before the show!!!!

Spurs on a female are just a fault and not a DQ. If you raise enough birds, you will eventually run into a hen that will turn into a male looking bird. It will grow saddle and hackle feathers and develop an adolescent sounding crow. It is still a female, but it will look like a male. I have had three or four do that so far. I have never seen a male chicken turn into a female so far.....I grew up in SF so I have seen humans do that......just haven 't seen any chickens yet.Walt

So far, she still looks like a lady, but what a witch! She's just over a year old now, 15 months.
