yay! im glad i'm not the only one to think earrings out of spurs is a good idea. I have some whoppers I harvested from an old english roo that was ancient...at least 9 years old as far as we could remember. I'll have to find them in the piles of jewelry making stuff and see what I can do with them.

Thanks for reminding me!

OMG! You make jewelry too?? We are lost sisters!

I think the spur earrings would be neat. I have a pair of rattlesnake rattle earrings, that I bought in AZ years ago. I only wear them when I'm trying to make a point......pppppppuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr stay away! Ok, that sound doesn't translate well when written, this sounds more like a cat!

Got another Silkie egg today! Not sure if it's the same one that laid yesterday, or a different one. This egg was a bit darker and larger. Had to show it to my Marans girls to humiliate them into laying! if I can get 5 more by Saturday, the bator is coming out of the box!!!

Should be an interesting mix of fluffy and odd colors.

Don't even get me started on my hobbies...I only have about 50...in fact...I just got back in from shutting up animals for the night, but before that, and what I will be working on tonight while periodically lurking on the thread is making a coffee table. I'm really excited about it...I took apart one of those old cheap 70's console tables and kept the hardware and the two sides...stripped off the cheap vinyl fake wood decal crap and have some nice solid framwork. I am gonna be working on putting on old burlap coffee bags with the stencil graphics and then for the top I stole an old door from a collection in the hay mount that is from an old grange building when they tore it down 30 + years ago. That will become the top and I have those two metal pinkerton dairy crates I got this fall that will fit in there perfectly. I love industrial/upcyled/repurposed stuff. So, fun project for the night

You must be a Gemini?? Sounds like me, except you sound more structured. Me, more like semi-organized chaos!

I taught myself how to fix antique and vintage sewing machines, did lots of those. Then got into Coleman lantern and stove rebuilding, did lots of them and still have too many, but they have saved my butt in power outages! Then got into antique Banquet and Parlor lamp restoration, fun, beautiful and practical. Got into old Perfection kerosene heaters, kept me to the limit cause they are bigger. Jewelry making, mainly for myself and family/friends. I like to do lots of stuff I've never done before, whatever interests me really. Still waiting for my Son to get back here to MO. We have always wanted to do a 1953 Chevy pickup restoration together! Life is a buffet!!!!!!!!!!! Try it all!

I got these guys from a lady in Norman, OK as day old chicks. She had tons of birds, I got my 3 Royal Palm turkeys from her also, I love my turks.

I raise cuckoos and by far they are the largest variety out of all the Marans colors I raise. The boys and girls are consistently beefy. If you have some more pics of the young ones you have I'm sure we'd all love to see them and if you were wanting some feed back on how they are looking side profile and front shots usually help to give a more accurate pic of them.

also...the boy on the left...do you think you can get a close up of his comb? I'm not sure, but its looking like he possibly has a sprig or carnation comb.

Is this the sprig thing you're talking about on his comb? I had to try to hold his big butt with one hand and focus a picture. If that's what you're talking about, I'd noticed that before. These guys are pets, I don't breed or show. So conformation doesn't matter. I had no idea they were such big birds, but I'm glad they are. The Sex-links act 1/2 scared of them because they're so big (we just put the Marans into the laying hens yard) but the Marans don't understand why. They just clump around in their own group minding their own business.

I appreciate the info but he could have sprigs coming out his backend and it wouldn't matter, his only job is being a pet. Nah, you didn't scare me away lol Although the Comb Police are pretty harsh on this board. Although nothing like the Wattle Police on the Faverolles board-haha!

haha no...not that I buy into the who signs thing all that much, but I'm a cusp baby...saggitarius/capricorn. I get in trouble a lot...sometimes with others, but mostly with myself. I feel sometimes like I war with myself over stuff. I am pretty structured...you are definitely right about that. I love some of the stuff you have done! Guess what!? I've been on the lookout for a pickup myself....but I'd like between 30's and 40's. I have some friends that have a custom hot rod shop and they are insanely talented doing rat rods and all sorts of other crazy stuff and they are on the lookout for me when they go picking for project supplies.

Oh...and I'll send you a pic for sure. I hope it turns out alright...my other projects that are more long term is restoring an old steamer trunk that has the drawers and etc in it and a piano that's been in the family for a long time. Came across in a covered wagon. Well...the thing is beyond repair...or at least it would cost more to repair it as a piano than its worth...so I've been gutting it and am going to be turning it into a desk. I can't wait til my brother comes up for Christmas cause I'm going to get him to help me pull out the cast iron piece inside. Its way too heavy for me to try doing that myself. He does woodworking for a living, so he'll do just fine for a helper! haha

haha I'm glad we didn't scare you away! Yeah, that's the sprig I'm talking about. Is that the only one he has, or is there also one on the other side in the same spot? I think they are lovely marked birds for sure and will make you great pets. Are yours friendly? Mine are pretty friendly, but have heard several people say their cuckoos are not.

I'm not one that runs life by the signs either, but there has to be something to it. I've found many people like me, and they are all Geminis too. Poor folks!

Wish my hands and energy level could keep up with my desires and ever changing hobbies. Not a bad thing sometimes, the sewing machines kept food on the table and the bills paid after I left the PO! I've had to re-invent myself a few times in this life, and just glad I can be flexable enough to do it!
