Its going to look really nice with the viewing window installed. The main reason I chose to use the wine coole was because whole front door is double pane glass. Which means my kids and the adult kids can see whats going on inside.

Your going to be fine with 3/4 inch ply for insulation especially if you keep it in your home. From the research I have done on custom and manufactured Bators, the single most important thing is to keep the bator in an area or room with minimal temperature fluctuations. I also like your rotoring in the window idea, to give it that extra touch of class.

Marans, Marans, eggies....

Welcome to the thread, Lisa. I agree, you may see eggs by the time you get thru this mess!
Sometimes we get a little off topic, just a tad

but that's what makes us all friends...

Put your measurements on the back of the door and cut from the back. Cutting from the back will eliminate splintering, this way the front of the door will be all pretty and you won't have to wood putty and sand it later.

Also, may I suggest treating the ply that will be exposed to the moisture and humidity inside while it is running. Try a linseed oil and apply a few coats. Linseed won't smell like oil based products and it can be reapplied as needed. The only reason I bring this up is because my best friends FIL built her a 'bator that is very similar to yours and she opted not the treat the inside, she fights mold and delamination in the wood and she can't get it really clean with the delamination and now it is too late to treat it and rectify, the wood should really be replaced and it is only about 2 years old.

Nice work by the way, its looking sharp!!!!!!!!!

Well, the rain and thunder fianlly stopped; got a good deal of rain last evening. We are still in drought mode pretty much as far as crop growing goes. They say we need 13" of rain to soak in and get the lower levels of soild damp, or 13 feet of snow!

Please Lord, not 13' of snow!!

VettekLisa ~ Welcome to the "dark side"...of eggs that is!

I see you are a MO neighbor. Pictures of your chicks are always welcomed, we are a visual crowd here, and love pics!

My chicklets are doing well outside, bullying has almost subsided. They are pretty smart as far as the rain went. Their first rain yesterday, and they either ran into the coop, or hung out under the nest boxed on the outside of the coop. Now..if I could say the same for my Silkies!

Not the brightest bulbs in the box, for sure!

Mornin all! Its looking like its gonna be another cold day here today. Its rained the last two days an melted almost all the snow, so its lookin like it will be slick out today

I did some more sorting on birds yesterday and I think about a dozen pullets will be going to live with a friend at the beginning of the year and a few more cockerels are going to freezer camp. That will help out setting up my breeding pens and prepping more for building and hatching season. I'm starting to get really excited for spring!

I hate to be the one that busts the bubble about plywood being organic......but plywood is not organic...well the wood is, but the glue that they laminate each layer of ply together to make a sheet of it, isn't. When the glue breaks down, it is what causes the delamination, swelling and warping.

Morning All!

Debbi, glad you are getting some rain, the south really needs it and I would love to see you all get much much more. We have been frozen here for the last week or so and we had frozen drain pipes for the last 2 days.....how fun! Everything outside was also frozen and had to truck water by hand to all the coops. Yesterday the finally thawed. What a relief!

Hey Pink!

How would Redwood hold up on the inside of a bator?? I know some of the older bators, like Leahys were made with it. Would it need some kind of treatment too? Wonder what the prices of that are, I can imagine it may be cost prohibitive out here?
