Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Oh no!
We'll have to wait for more opinions, but I hope that's not the case!
I'd need help figure which girl...sigh...

A chicken train would be great!!

I'll see about Congress, too!
I do want to send in eggs to the show in the NE, though!

Cool looking chicks. I to see a little brown tinges but I will leave that to the veterans of this boards to tell us if that gets worst or hopefully could fade????

Regarding, the little pooper...I think he/she is telling what she thinks of you taking her photo:lol:

Sometimes the mossy or stippling will grow out and disappear but other times it will not. The chick in the 3rd photo that has a good bit of it is the one that I would watch. If its stippling does not go away then it is mossiness here to stay. Also the big butt front and center in that same photo = male.

Cadeau ~ Hopefully it's just the lights on his legs, because I agree with Randy, they should look more slate colored. What is that blue girl in the middle of the first pic? She looks like a BLRW?? The BCM girl looks pretty good though, love the shank feathering.

Cadeau, have you gotten with Skip about the egg show?

And I am getting a bad feeling that Bonnie has been cheating on Clyde, unless that mossiness is the result of brother/sister matings.
Won't know till they are older.... They were perfect when they hatched, now at 1-2 weeks, they are looking kinda ho hum...

I have been thinking about those Birchens since then too......I can't wait for them or for spring. My DH just rolled his eyes and laughed when I told him and then said I better start pinching me pennies again.

I went out to get some photos of Lil' Bill and the Gnarles boy (going to call him G2) yesterday for Debbi and it pizzled all day....of course they look like drowned rats. So pics of the bopsy twins for Ms. Debbi is going to have to wait for a couple days until the sun comes back out.

Oh and yes for those of you wondering what I am talking about......I am going to be getting some more Black Birchen chicks in the spring. I am very excited about them (it's all Vicki's fault

). Hoping to test my Blue girls here to the Birchen boy that I got from Zanna that came from Marquisella to see which one of my Blue girls will give me a Blue Birchen and I am set for the blues. I suspect that one of the girls from Bill will be the ones that actually produce a Birchen and they are in with Lil' Bill right now and they better get a move on and start laying so I can test some of their eggies and get them cleaned out so they can go in with the Birchen boy.
Why does it all have to take so long?!?!?!?

Chick down is never indicitive of what adult plumage will look like.....it may give us some signs to watch for but it certainly is not a tell tale. Perfect upon hatch is normal and it truly is only when they start to feather that a person will see it. Don't worry too much about it right now and just have fun watching them grow out. They will be a great study tool and you will learn alot about what is going on in your adults from them.

Can't wait to see their pics.

Vicki, Are you hunkering down for the blizzard coming your way?? Or are you too much norther than the storm? Sure hope it misses you, it should miss us here, or so they say. But, they have been awfully wrong in the past!

Ok- legs on the boy are slate with lighter toes.must have been the lights. (phew!)

He does have a light edge to some of his chest feathers.

Debbi- yep that blue girl hatched with a binch of BLRW and some BCM.
I'll keep them together until they molt out their 3mth feathers.

Pink? I could use your opinion!?
Pretty please??

So the blue girl has the right amount of feathering?
Boy is too much or too long?

Ok, great! Thought she looked Wyandotty!

Sorry I called your Blue girl a BCM, not enough coffee yet. I have one that color too. I love the feathering on both of them, just right to me!
