Morning all!
Was out checking out my birds today in the 8 degrees sunshine!
Couple questions - couldn't take a pic b/c camera doesn't work in 8 degrees weather....
I need more thickness/size in my Marans and I have a young boy growing up and he appears to have some size to him, coloring appears good if on the darker side, but I have some questions about him:
1. Would you use a roo, whose tail you haven't seen?
He came to me tailless and seems to be only going to have 1 tail feather... (he is NOT rumpless - just was picked terribly and tail seems to not have recovered)
Would you dare use a roo, whose tail you haven't seen?
Will he get a second chance on a tail for his first adult molt?
2. Same boy appears to have a decent comb - good shape, and number of points, no twists, no sprigs, etc.
BUT - it is huge (as in length from points to top of head)...
Would that be heritable?
I read somewhere that hot weather chicks grow bigger combs than cold weather chicks - is that true?
Would you consider that a reason to cull?
I'll try to get a pic later, if/when it warms up a bit
