My mossy boys are going to a friend on mine today.....he will finish raising them out and then he trades them for other meat and calls me when the trade is done and says come pick up a steak or a pack of ribs. Today he will also be taking a few mature roosters that are ready for butcher and is trading me some rabbit meat for the mature boys and later I will get whatever he trades for the younger cockerels.

Do I see 9 little Splash babies in there? Totally cute!

Vicki, weather is spot on here. 64*, sunny, but that danged wind is back!

Tried to get pics this morning, but near impossible with these chicklets! Wind=flying to them!

I did get two of a couple of the boys, but they are standing oddly on top of their crate, and would not straighten up. They both look crippled, which they are not. The Silkies were the same way. I need a camera with a much faster shutter speed. As soon as I click the button, they all have moved! I will say this, I do see feather shafting in the breast feathers of the two boys I did take pics of.

When I do get pics, I tend to be able to see things better than with my poor eyes! Oh yeah...

Marcy, "Mossy" is where the feathers have a rusty, smudgy copperish coloring to them, over and within the desired color, like black or blue. Go back a few pages to see some pics, or do a search for "mossy feathers in Marans", in the search box at the top right of every page. It should pull up more pics. Okay see the little blk birchen girl on the left? See how her back (not the neck/hackle area) doesn't look solid black but has a brushed on silvery covering the black. Blk copper birds can have this as well but it is a coppery/brown color brushed on instead of the silver brushing etc. sometimes it can be both silver and copper mossiness like on this little girl but you can't see the copper as much in this pic.

Eating lunch with the front and back door open!!! In January!!!

Middle of next wee, we are supposed to get some rain, and the temps drop into the 40s. Ooooooo, the 40s!! I could live just fine all winter in the 40s!!

Seems like this time last year we had the deadly tornados that wiped out 160 homes, just west of me at FT. Wood, on NY's eve. Then we went into those frigid temps with minus 10 for about a week. I'll take 40 and keep my mouth shut!!

Hmm, guess it's time to change the date on my camera, I took this this morning!
