for the BLRW for sure think that's the way to go....boys for processing feeds you guys, and the girls can either be to sell as layers to others or to lay you eggs for personal use or sale. Puts birds that aren't good enough for breeding to work for you and your remaining flock. Also, it helps you because you've retained your originals for possible breeding later and you get the benefit of watching the young ones grow to give you a better understanding of how the Wyandottes grow out. Win win all the way around....esp since you've got those coming to you!

On the Marans...there was one for sure I did not like...I'll have to go look at the pics again. Give me a few minutes and I'll email ya

They are pretty young to judge type so hopefully you can keep both boys for awhile yet to see how they mature. But, yes, they do look like BCMs!!!!

Your pullets have nice coppering so far!!

SOME copper on the boy's chest is ok but that's alot for such a young boy. The yellow legs are a problem. They are a DQ in the show world.

Sunday, the farrier coming in the morning, but I might be able to swing driving up on Fri night and staying until early afternoon Sat - ?? -

Should I bring a traveling cage or two?!

What all is available at these shows - birds, other bird needs???
I've never been to a show!!

Thanks, Vicki!

I sent you 7 from the oldest grow out house - have maybe 16-7 other girls and maybe another 10 boys hanging around.

Then, I have @12 POL pullets and 3 roos
Most of the hens were cataloged last weekend during "picture day" - I did post, but can e-mail to you, as well!!
I can organize them with colored bands, like I did the youngsters and take pics again!

THANKS - SO EXCITED!!
What a great help!!

I sent off my thoughts on those first 7.... keep in mind that with as many as you have for girls you can afford to be picky. It is better to have fewer better quality than to have more that are just ok. I'll keep my notes I wrote and can add more when you send more pics. Then it will give an opportunity to re evaluate your birds on the whole to find the best for you. The band coding I think will help keep all the birds straight so that's a good idea!

Beautiful birds, lovely egg colour!!! Since it's a red ribbon win and it says Alberta on the header, can I assume you are a Canadian breeder????

Yellow legs are recessive you can save that hen and single mate her to the roosters you have to make sure they are not carrying one copy for yellow legs if they are then you'll need a better rooster as for type they are really too young as they change so much after 6 months but as soon as they pullets lay you can test them and see right away what you have.
