Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Barb~ I have reported some things and making a list of each new thing that happens so that I can get them to him.

Math~ I tried photobucket a while back....it was not my thing and also very slow for dial up users.

We're not suppose to have a limit to how many photos or private messages we can have here anymore, is that right?

A very good friend of ours who is a pilot for Hawaiian Air told us what he pays for his apartment in Honolulu and HOA fees and then mentioned his power bill....I think I had heart failure right then and there........... OUTRAGEOUS!

Ah yes there is a price for paradise. Actually we have solar hot water so that takes 30 to 40% off your power bill. Did you know your electric hot water heater makes up at least a third of your power bill? When you have year round sun it is crazy not to use solar.

Slick~
Finally viewed every one of the boys.....the blue boy is my favorite, hands down and that is not just because he is blue.

I think he is going to be very nice upon full maturity.

#2 (excluding the comb), #3 and #4 are looking good..with #4 being my last choice because his copper appears a tad light in my opinion, but could also be the light. Is it possible to get a comb close up of #3?
#2's comb is starting to do the twist in the blade, but he has a nice type, dang it anyway for the comb. Didn't you post a photo of this bird while back and we could already see the twist starting? So many birds..it is hard to remember, exact details sometimes.

Anytime you have more photos of them don't hesitate to post and update us.....they really do continue to change until they are fully matured and even... then they can still change, but the rate of change slows dramatically.
Which birds are your favorites and why are they your favorites? Sometimes our gut is the right way to go with them. Tell us your thoughts of your boys.

Thank you and yep, I know about the solar hot water heater and its savings....been trying to convince DH to convert for about 3 years now and he doesn't think that the switch is worth it. I know that even here in the gray PNW that are fully capable of supporting solor power and I am all for it...but DH is a hard sell because of the $$ it will take to convert. I am completely envious of my neighbors who live a bit further up the hill.....it's a little community of solar powered houses and I love it!

Omg solar hot water is totally worth it. My husband is a plumbing contractor ( in hawaii plumbing contractors are the only ones licensed to install the systems) so I have a worksheet that figures out the savings and payback time. For a typical family of 4 the money you save on your power bill pays for the system in two years. And they last 15 years. That is all figures for hawaii of course. Don't know about other states.

Afternoon! Just got home and gonna try to get outside for some more photos in a bit....of course depending upon the wind. Its cleared off and gotten sunny here Debbi, but its only upper 30's and the wind has come up like crazy since this morning.

Even my untrained eye likes the blue boy the best, although he does not have the frame size as some of the others.

Bird #1~ has never been considered because he has always had the narrow body. I know he might change, but there's the lack of color, too.

Bird #2~ Big body and good rich copper color. Only, I'm not going to be able to get beyond the comb.

Bird #3~ is my intitial pick because he is overall more balanced. Not the color I would paint him, but the copper is very rich. He is also the chunk of the bunch. I really like his comb because it is thick and pleasing to my eye. As someone earlier pointed out he has the better shaped head.

Bird #4~ is the smallest of them all. His body seems to taper back towards the tail and for some reason I just don't like the comb. Even though he expresses more color, it's not the colors I would use if I were painting him. I wonder if the bad I see in him skews my opinion of the comb?

Bird #5~ I see a lot of the same things as #3. He doesn't have quite the same bulky frame, but it's not far from it. Decent comb and adequate color. He is my second choice.

Bird #6~ Hope he tastes better than he looks.

There's my assessment, so that and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee at some places. Feel free (and please do if necessary) to straighten me out.
