I've been having the same problem, Vicki...

I'm starting to think I might take Karen's idea of using one of those heated birdbaths for the bottom of a nester to see if that could keep the eggs from freezing!! SO frustrating to get a gorgeous egg and then see it is frozen and cracked...

you'll have to let me know how it goes if you try them. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet...the only ones I've had a problem with is my two outbuildings...and those are going to be changing here soon, so I'm not too worried. The birds I'll be using for breeding will be moved into the barn where its much warmer luckily.

Hi mama24. Meet guinea girl. She is one of my first bcms I got from someone on byc. She hatched out of the egg with no tail whatsoever. She looked like a little penguin when she was little. She never did grow a tail so she is in the laying pen and not in the breeding stock. She is the sweetest thing and one of dh's favorites. She is a very prolific layer of nice brown speckled eggs.
This is her when she was a pullet.

OH! Thank you so much for replying! I was really worried there was something terribly wrong with her for a while now! LOL. She looks JUST like your girl.

Deb, this post made me LOL! My neighbours have actually phoned me and teased me about hearing me call in my chickens- by name!!!!

Wait til they see the CLOTHING you put on the chickens... SADDLES . . I have yet have a person come over that doesn't totally flip at the idea that my chickens are wearing clothing!

AND, my chickens loved those dresses! The last one I had to remove acted like trying to take a gorgeous prom dress off of a teenager! "NOOOOoooooooo!!!!!!!!"
