ROFLMAO

I want to point out that this person says

"these birds have been bred with the submitted standard in mind. "

Anyone catch the contradiction of ....

"Marans are not yet an officially recognized APA breed"

Yep, that is right folks... this person is breeding with the standard in mind.... BUT does not know that the breed and its standard was APA recognized almost a year ago...

yikes....

It takes all kinds I guess

Taking guesses they don't have the color chart from MCCUSA, nor do they understand what "squirrel tail" means. That's one of the most squirrel tail birds I've seen in a while

I didn't open the link, but are those the eggs that auctioned for $305.00?

A very good friend of ours emailed me the link yesterday.....Ohhhh my I got a good laugh! $305.00 for 6 eggs....NOT THIS GIRL!!!!! NO WAY!

(No offense to the person who has them listed if you are here on BYC or reading this post...more power to you if you get that kind of money for your eggs
bow.gif
...go get 'em!)

Will say that LP (Brenda- the Little Peddler) does have VERY NICE BIRDS though!!!!

Non-USA stock just means that they are from one of the first original imported birds or the from the line of imported birds that someone legally had shipped into the U.S.

FUNNY SMILEY MATH!!!! Too FUNNY!

Could you elaborate on that cross? Or PM me? I have a starter flock of Blue laced red Wyandottes--I'm not sure I'm quite as thrilled with them as others that just posted....for several reasons, but the biggie right now is that even with 2 cockerels in with 6 pullets, and they are approaching 1 year in age, I am getting a horrible fertility rate, like 25-35%. The last batch I candled, only 6 out of 24 were fertile. All the ones that are fertile, hatch. But 4 of the pullets don't look like the cockerels are breeding them at all. I had one pair separated for a while, she laid 5 eggs, all infertile, then quit. She has terrible type, too, I find most of them do not have great type, and even though she is my best colored, I think she will be culled. Sorry

this is a Marans thread, so back to gilavina, you have me thinking, maybe I should take those 2 BLRW cockerels out of there and let my Black Copper Marans cockerel have at them for a bit? Or just keep the 2 pullets that have obviously been bred in that pen, and move the others in the Black Copper Marans pen? I've had great fertility with him, and he has 7 ladies in his pen. I was toying with the idea of selling off all my BLRWs. But they have just come into their best laying now, seems a shame; I am just selling the eggs as eating eggs now since the fertility was so bad. Plus my incubator is full

I recommend the cross. I don't have any right now as I sold them to a friend that was desperate for some layers after losing some of her birds to a predator, but they are wide and tanky and super sweet. It was hard to sell them, but I knew she would take really good care of them for me! The bonus is that they lay thicker shelled eggs, with the consistency of the wyandottes...and a range of color tones.
I plan on working on making some crosses again when I have most of my hatching season behind me. That reminds me....6 days til hatching!!

How could anyone who's followed your posts at all NOT know you'd fall head over heels for something blue and feathered?

Hey Pink, and other Marans folks. Sorry for the long hiatus. LOOOONG cold winter here, and lots of sickness.

Guess who just hatched his first BLUE copper Marans this week? Just two made it from a badly packed box of shipped eggs, but one has an odd white spot on his head, like it's cuckoo or something. One is just perfect, with really good shank fuzz - only one toe. Do you ever have a hard time telling the difference between a dark blue and a black at hatch?

I've got an incubator full of eggs from a German guy who packs amazingly well. Giant styrofoam cooler with foam on the top and bottom. Got cuckoos, silver birchens, whites and black coppers in there from him.

Weird! I was driving today and wishing I had an email addy or something to track you down since we haven't seen you for so long!!!!

Very glad to see you back online!

I hope the sickness hasn't been too much of a problem. Especially for that handsome avatar of yours!

How goes the coop rebuilding????

My blues (coppers) hatched indistinguishable from the blacks (coppers). My blues are dark with crisp lacing and they seem to stay that way - so far. (No spots on their heads.)

Thanks, Pink. Oh well. It is what it is.

I'm one of those folks that figures since that didn't work - something else was meant for me.

I'm making connections - and have all good hopes! In the meantime, Elliot and I will make the best of it with the large fowl.

(My Ameraucana pullets seem to like him and vice versa .... )
