One out of five has been laying for a couple months. Her eggs are very dark brown. One that just started this past couple of weeks is laying the weird eggs. Half brown/ half tan with speckles on one end. Everyone else falls in between with various shades of brown.

ok, I'm doing that with my extra one now, and then tonight will take it out, calibrate one that's in the bator now (and put the one I'm calibrating now in then) and so on and so forth. That is too crazy though to have 4 different ones and get 4 different readings. Is the fan able to be adjusted on the forced air Genesis Hovabator? I think my temps are ok, but want to know if I can change the fan if I need to...Thanks so much for explaining it all to me...it seems finick-ier this time...maybe b/c it is still February and I've never incubated eggs in Feb before. I've hatched lots of chicks and ducklings in the same bator, but always later in Spring...warmer and more humid here then.

I don't know about the fans in your bator, mine is home made and I can adjust them when needed. My temps swing with colder weather so that maybe what is going on. Good Luck!

Well...just got in from collecting eggs and shutting up the animals for the night. I got a surprise....one of my Marans laid me a giant egg...the color ended up just being small spots of color...its 95.68 grams! poor girl! Bet there was some hollering after that one

Also, Donna, I was looking at my chicks tonight and my blue cuckoo that is the second generation cross is looking to have some nice patterning coming in so far. I'll be watching this one as it develops for sure!

I have all the 2 gens Blue Cuckoos in the bator! I set 180 eggs today... hubby told me to fill it up! He is crazy! My guess is the Cuckoos are going to stop being fertile anytime now, but until I know that for sure they are all going in the bator. I set a ton of Marans today, Cuckoos both blue and golden, Black and Blue coppers, SLW, Leghorns, EE, D'Uccles, Lavs, RIR, Wheaten Ams, Blue Rocks, Partridge Rocks,...... that may be all

The brown eggs are colored with a substance that is derived from the blood. The blue eggs are colored with a substance that is derived from the gall bladder.

I have all the 2 gens Blue Cuckoos in the bator! I set 180 eggs today... hubby told me to fill it up! He is crazy! My guess is the Cuckoos are going to stop being fertile anytime now, but until I know that for sure they are all going in the bator. I set a ton of Marans today, Cuckoos both blue and golden, Black and Blue coppers, SLW, Leghorns, EE, D'Uccles, Lavs, RIR, Wheaten Ams, Blue Rocks, Partridge Rocks,...... that may be all

I have so many eggs I'm collecting everyday that I'm on working on getting a few more customers for laying eggs. Picked up one more again today, but still can probably take on 5 to 10 without a problem. I'm getting between 2 and 5 dozen a day and its not even spring yet.

Are you planning on selling a lot of chicks or are you growing all those out lady?! I'm not feeling ambitious at all this week, so those numbers are making me tired just thinking about them! I really hope you get some good blue cuckoos out of it tho! Did you get more SLW eggs from that lady?

Yep! They came today! I am gong to sell the WL, EE, RIR, Golden Cuckoos and some Blue Cuckoos and maybe some Blue and Black Coppers. IDK about those yet. I set my DARKEST eggs. (hubby was impressed at the show with the eggs and I told him mine were darker and he didn't believe me... well he does now

) I am planning on hitting all the sale/swaps at the local co-ops to help support my habit

On the Blue cuckoos I will keep the ones from the darkest eggs and maybe just the ones that have feathered legs. I don't know yet... I will just have to see what hatches and go from there. I need to go get that roo and pullet from Becky if she will still let me?!?!?!?!?

Well...I say if you set that many eggs from those Blue Cuckoos...going that route of keeping only those from the darkest eggs and with leg feathering, it will certainly launch you ahead...

how many SLW eggs did you get this time? I hope they hatch better for you this time.

I haven't decided when I will set eggs again, I've got so much going on and not feeling good, so I'm not in a rush like I have been the last two years. Plus, I'd like to see what these new wee (or not so wee) chicks develop into over the next three or four weeks. I want to try to be more concentrated in my focus with hatching, going group by group. I'm hoping it will keep me sane this year

Hey Lenette! Got any hatching soon? Or are you holding off for a while longer? I'm having a hard time keeping up on here lately.
