Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi,

I am unsubscribing from this thread. It's always the same 12 people chit chattting. Even when I do post, I don't feel welcome, tolerated , but not welcomed. Just kinda like an interruption in the chit chat. I guess that's ok if ya'll want this thread to be that. Just not what I was looking for. Enjoy.

Best,
Karen in western PA

There are a BUNCH of Marans threads. I'm subscribed to all of them. Most of them are "Marans only - no chit chat" but this one does tend to get conversational and friendly quite frequently. I don't see that as a problem nor should the subject line have to be changed because at the end of the day, most of the conversation revolves around Marans. Just as 3riverschick has suggested, you are always free to unsubscribe if you find it cumbersome. But I'll be sticking around, even if my comments get lost in the volumes sometimes. There are always other threads.

I like the friendliness and familiarity that this thread has become.

Sorry all- that was me last night...we started to chat and a lot if it should have been on email...

Karen- I wrote specifically TO you the other day, twice over two days and again yesterday, hoping you'd chime in about a duckwing or salmon youngster I had hatch a week ago!

I know you were very into that color for a while and researched it top to bottom.
I wanted to know more about your thougts in the genetics and where she came from!

Was going to e-mail but couldn't find if in my mail...

Good luck!
I'm still in the early stages of marans, too!
The learning curve is STEEP!

I'm trying to get my stepdaughter to do chicken 4-H!!
but she wants to stick with pigs and do a goat this year...

(hmm where did the post go about cuckoos, their first eggs, and 4-H --am I going crazy?)

I certainly did not mean to offend or annoy anyone on here at all. This thread does tend to be a combo of chatting and more on the lighthearted side of the Marans discussions, but like Barb mentioned, I too subscribe to all of the Marans threads and enjoy how this thread is. I can't speak for everyone, but I never had a feeling that I didn't feel like someone was welcome. I often miss large sections of the thread throughout the week while I'm at work, so I guess it doesn't bother me too much.

Cute babies! The one that you label "him"seems to have a bigger comb from what I can see in the pictures. I find it hard to tell at a young age and usually have to watch them longer and see if my guess were right. Hopefully others will chime in and give their thoughts.

They are cute and I believe they are both cockerels. The comb on both of them is pretty large for the age they are. :)

I see a lot of other threads that are supposed to be on one particular chicken breed on byc that also has quite a few pics and stories of peoples goats, emus, pigs, barns, families, etc that are involved in the conversations.
So its not just the Marans thread. When people share a common interest and post on the same thread every day its only natural to share and be curious about one another's pets and lives.
I would never try to make anyone feel unwelcome. I think many feel welcome here and that is why this thread is so active. There are specific threads on the specific varieties of Marans that were made just to strictly talk about those varieties. Not really too much chit chat on those.

Of course some breeds are easier to tell sooner on, like Welsummer for example- my DD is pretty good on getting them right.

thanks for saying it so eloquently...it really is hard not to get to know the people on here after a while. And even tho its taken me a year to really feel like I'm getting to actually know people and make some really good friendships on here. Without this thread, I wouldn't know anyone that raises Marans or be able to talk and sometimes whine about the process with.

I'm sorry, it was me that snapped. All you guys are the friendliest people here, but as soon as I heard the word missionary, my brain just snapped.
There was no excuse for it.
I had a horrible time in Utah, and shouldn't have associated friendly chat with my misery.
It is just a part of me that won't go away, as much as I try.

I think we all probably have some hot button of some kind that gets triggered at some time or another (I know I do) and the best part is when people can deal with it and move on and make the best of it.
