Did you figure out....in little bitty black letters "advanced search"
Go to user name, and it actually will spell it out... no need for *.

Why of course I have tried the advanced search, but HEY maybe you can work it better than I can....

How about this for a practice item.... There is a lady on BYC that goes by highspringschix or highspringschick or highspringschic.
In the OLD days, I could search for all the highsprings* in Florida. In one search, I would find this user's homepage with contact and post information.

If you got the time.... see if you can find it now using that delightful "Advanced search" feature.
