This never gets old!
and it has feathers down the outside of its itty bitty legs and outer toes! wahoo! still the only chick, but one of the 2 good OE eggs has a pip now. Hope I wake up to more already hatched. This is agony...

What are you putting in there - Hmmmm?
well....I have collected just a handful of eggs from one of my best BCM hens

some nice dark and shiny eggs from the pen where Gigantor and Big Boy are, some columbian wyandotte bantam eggs, and a few coronation sussex eggs from a trio I bought last fall. These are their first eggs since they've been here....they took their dear sweet time with their molt and such....I own these with my uncle, so I figured I better get to hatching. I have other coros, but he has none except these..

Beautiful girl!

Doesn't take long to give in with gorgeous eggs and an incubator standing empty, huh!?

haha...not really. Now that the chicks are outside I feel less chaotic, and know that its time to start getting some of these test hatches out of the way. Its crazy beautiful here this week. 82 today and will be warm all week.

By the way. I can't wait to try that big girl against Gigantor and Big Boy. She is in with the roo from her bloodline at the moment...and they throw really nice pullets, so I can't wait to see what I get!!

At what age would you say eye color is finished changing?

Some change way faster than others....I have a couple of girls that didn't finish changing eye color til they were well over 8 months old...and then some have changed at 4 or 5 months and some just don't change. That is one of the things I'm really going to try to work on this year...I am hoping girls like the one I posted with the really nice eye color will make a huge dent!

I'm keeping an eye on some daughters from that huge blue hen, like you suggested
2 are still muddy, but changing (4mths), and 3 are sort of half and half (5mths) and 1 is orange (5mths)

When you say your chicks are outside what do you mean.... how old are they? Do you have an outdoor brooder with heat? Inquiring minds....
