Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I have looked at them before... just forgot. I am just not that into Brahmas.... good thing. They had some pairs for sale at Newnan... those birds are HUGE... Like a goose! Good thing they are docile birds... except the roo I have.

I have to move all the eggs in the bator to the hatcher to keep them warm. The bator is binding up so my son is going to help me take it apart and try to fix it once and for all. It is coming lose at the nuts and gears and then getting stuck on the wood and can't move. It is going to burn the motor up if I don't get it fixed. Then I have to fix the fan in the hatcher too.

hope you can get things sorted with the equipment. I hate when things dont work like one would like them to. yarg.
I love brahmas, but never have had them....never had enough space...they are indeed massive!

I cannot look at those Vicki!!!!!!!!! I cannot look at those!!!!!!!! I'm on a strict chicken budget! LOL!

You want me to send you a link....

You don't need to look... they eat you out of house and home, take forever to lay and don't lay that well. You don't need any....

Yes I am going to keep that little ghost barred chick for a while to see what happens....but it's a cockerel so I don't think I will be hanging on to him long. I have splash cockerel that has some speckling in the hackles as well....will try to get a photo of his hackles today.

He is a BAD boy.......yesterday he pecked a hole in my Polly Esther's head like when your little bantam girl got hurt. I am contemplating suturing it this morning...if she made it through the night. I haven't been out there yet this morning to check on her.

awww....that turd! I hope you can get that little girl all fixed up. I hate when any of the girls get hurt!

The Birchens are in the budget......dear hubby is also helping save for them and he doesn't even know it. I take all of his coin change at the end of the day and it goes straight into the jar.

Yep..I see how easy it came out but I'm more worried about how fast it will come back. LOL!

Bad Charlotte has a little half sister here......Bad Betty and she is just like her big sister. Always the last one in at night.

She does have feathered shanks it just doesn't look like it in this photo and they are not street sweepers. Wish they were. I love the body on this girl...but I don't think I will use her for breeding. I'm not impressed with her comb. No sprigs or carnation crud ........just don't like it. We will see.

Aww, Bad Betty is pretty, and looks very much like Bad Charlotte. I had a consort with her the other day. She HATES to be held, but once she settles down is ok. I checked her comb out well. No sprigs on her either, but I'm not in love with her comb either. Will test her though. Her coloring is so strange, very goldish leakage all over her. I had thought she was getting ready to molt back in the winter, but so far she hasn't started yet. I don't even recall her going through a juvie molt either. She is an odd girl for sure...

Yeh, don't look at those Brahmas! I wish I had more money and more room. I would so love to have some of Dan's Buff Laced Brahmas!! Maybe by the time the price drops on them, I will have some more room. I only really need a trio...honestly, just 3 would do me!

All I can picture now is a chicken in a leisure suit! Cute name, I hope she's ok.
