Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Wow I love the mahogany color on that boy's hackles. It looks so rich! I bet he is gonna be awesome!

I just want to say to all you folks.....
I love chickens.
The older I get the more I realize how important it is to do what makes you happy. Chickens make me happy. Who would have thunk it? lol

I like to sit out and watch my batch of marans babies that I had sent to me (some might remember me posting about that). They are turning out so nice. But get this... out of 23 chicks I think i have ended up with only 4 girls!! How's them odds? But that is ok. All I really need is a trio of awesomeness and I am in biz! lol

thanks! The crazy thing is that all the Black and Blue coppers I've hatched so far have good copper color already at this age. Including the girls! I have another one that looks almost exactly like the boy I took a pic of, but he's super hard to get a hold of. Such a sweet, shy little thing.

You're in the right place then. Chickens make me really happy too. The best part of the day is getting to be with them and watch their antics! I sure hope you get a good start out of those younguns of yours. I would think I'd rather have more boys to work with anyways since it seems so much harder to get a really nice male.

that reminds me Christie...I was gonna ask if anyone else notices the copper a chick has when they are little is a flatter color and later on they get a richer, shinier set of copper feathers coming in over the top of them? In that pic of the BCM boy, those darker richer feathers are the ones I'm talking about. I love watching them change

Just wondering if anyone knows what I will get. I have a blue(no copper ) rooster crossed with a cuckoo Marans hen? Im also looking a for a blue copper rooster and a blue copper and or splash hen in the Maryland area. I had someone that was a no show to buy some other birds and a month later one of my blue copper and one if my splash hens mysteriously dissapeared( and it wasnt a hawk or fox) Very upsetting but now they are surrounded by a very nicely charged electric fence

You will get sex links. All the cuckoos will be roos. You will get half blue and half black of each gender.

I have 2 nice blue copper roos, that would be great for breeding. They are getting beat up (as I have too many) and I wouldn't show them right now.
If you are interested, I can take them to Sussex, NJ May 19.
I don't have pics right now, but will post if you're interested.
Roberta

I hope the charge is enough to shock a human, not just another SMALL animal!

Hi Christie! Good to see ya pop around again and speaking of those little cuties that you had shipped in, where are the photos? Hmmm? Hmmmm? Hmmmm?
