Its difficult wading through all these pages to find out info on Marans with all the small talk and other breed info. Ok, you can hate me now!

No hating here. We are a little family in here, and as families do, we go off on other subjects. If you read back through the "small talk", there is a lot of Marans info in there too. Did you have a question or something to discuss? We would all be glad to help. There is also another Marans thread that is more down to business, and with less chatter if you prefer. For me, I prefer the friendships I have made on this thread, along with a vast volume of knowledge that has come from these folks. No harm, no fowl...

Broodiness hit here the last couple of weeks, too!

Currently have 4 bantam cochins on eggs and one I gave 2 freedom ranger chicks, as well as, a BLRW girl.

I finally gave up on taking their eggs!

None of my Marans are broody - they DO, however, pile 4 to a single nester with 2 looking in, waiting, to lay their eggs each day

Of course, there are 5 other nester available, but none of them will do!!

Vicki - I hope you get a great check from the auction!
I got $7/roo last week, which was pretty good around here and $17/hen
but only $2/youngster, which sucked

Laughing Clown - did you have a question or something to contribute about Marans?

Like Debbi said - this thread is a family of Marans lovers getting together across the globe.
There is TONS of good info on Marans, but other talk, as well.

If you want solely Marans info/talk - there is a thread for that, too!

Slick and anyone else - sorry for the lost chicks.
I lost a full tray of gorgeous eggs this week (some of my first "real" eggs from my this year's generation) b/c a friend's kid got into the incubator...

I certainly hope I do well. I only had one pen of a mature trio with a roo, the rest were all either 10-11 week old chick grouping of cuckoos or just all pullets and hens for layers. So I'm hoping it worked to my advantage! Some of the girls I wanted to send are currently my broodies, and are sitting tight. I figured I'd let them get through their cycle and let their back feathers grow back a bit, then send them in a few weeks. There's only 4 of them that are lookin a bit ruffled, so should fill back in quick enough. Last time I took started cuckoos I ended up getting between 9 and 13 apiece...so hoping for more good news, esp since there were a few really nice ones in there!

I've got an eye appointment tomorrow for what I think is allergies attacking me. I've been miserable and kinda dingy. I'm praying its an easy fix, if not, I might not be on as much for a bit, the light from the computer is agitating my eyes.
