Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Morning all!

I've built new breeding pens and have a couple of empty pens... Oh dear my chicken karma tells me to fill 'em up!!

I'm drawn to golden cuckoo marans or blue coppers. Can someone on this thread direct me to the best stock?

Hi Cheryl! Very long time no see lady! How have you been? Do you still have Wheatens?
No because of breeding pen restraints I wasn't able to keep them, but I'm very interested in adding a marans to my new facility. I have 10 pens now, with a few that are empty...OH NO an empty pen...heaven forbid!

I'm thinking french golden cuckoos, blue coppers or Golden Salmon, I've just reached out to Bev, but would love others feedback

I miss this thread! Such passionate breeders on here...hope to get back into the breed with some super stock

Here's a few pics of our new facility....

Something tells me someone was not very happy that I was in her coop yesterday.

I love this Splash gal.....most of all I love her leg coloring. This is my first Splash to get slate legs this dark. Normally they are way lighter, very pale blue. I know her eyes look very dark in this photo but they are not, they are actually that greenish gray color, so I suspect that they will be the correct color when she matures.

I really really like this pullet. I almost can't wait for her to grow up.

She is a cutie lady! Love her body shape, even at that age! I've been in contact with Don the last couple of days and he is liking how my blue coppers are looking and told me those birchen girls are the best he's seen. I'm very happy!

Did you happen to see the newest members of my herd? I'm having so much fun with them!

Cheryl, your place looks great! Love the coops and how everything is set up! If I were a chicken I would definitely move in........uninvited too.....I would just jump in and act like I had always been there.

I would offer up some Blue Copper eggs to you, but I am still kind of test mating for a few more months, perhaps until the end of summer. I want to make sure that some comb issues I had pop up are completely gone.

You have been missed around here......last we spoke you were still doing major reno to the house due to water problems. Is that all cleared up?

Those are lovely pens. I am trying to get started on something similar if weather and work will cooperate. Just wondering how you secured them to the ground?

Thanks Vicki! I am uploading now and haven't looked back through the thread, but I will. Are you talking about the puffy cheekers? They are adorable!
Don is right about your Blues....I'm in total gaga over that dark Blue Copper girl you posted.
Say Hi to Don for me and tell him, he doesn't have to be such a stranger around here.

Ah thanks for missing me! Yes the house is all brand new remodeled after the city flooded it with sewage. We were out for 6 months but it's gorgeous now! and on their dime....

Been working really hard on my flocks...in addition to what is on the website, I'm getting show quality speckled sussex and also including BBS Langshans...should be fun!
