Donna, I had a pretty yellow cream chick hatch also--I just thought she was a divider jumper bot still wasn't totally convinced of that. I just pulled her out of the OE and CM brooder and thru her in with the AM/EE.

I guess I'll know when the comb is a single rather than a pea comb.

Debbi! i can't get my photos to post on BYC! GRRR. I'm gonna try again later, but I've cleared the history/emptied the cache, closed the browser, and restarted the computer and nothing so far. Grr again I say...GRRR

Help me in the mean time... what do we have here.... wheaten? sport? white?

Kinda has a chipmunk think but looks more like black spots? What is it?

One more what color and gender are these cuckoos? I am new the cuckoo sexing thing....

I think all these are reg cuckoo

This is a younger group and 2 are blue? 6&8

Tell me please how you sex cuckoos? I have someone that wants four and I don't want to give them all roos. I don't mind giving them all pullets if that is what they want. I just don't know who is who?

Debbi - I agree on the broody!

This is the first time I let a broody hatch her eggs and, after a few false starts, she did it!

Little bantam Cochin pullet hen with 3 she hatched, and gave her 5 more that are a week old!

She's very proud! and a great mommy!
I pulled the egg from both broody pens today! Enough already!!!

In pen 2, there are 4 hens and 1 roo, and 12 babies all running around together! They had left one hen in the nest box to finish the incubation, but she was looking so worn out, I could not stand it another minute! I pulled 9 eggs out from under her, and candled them. All were good but 1. Went on to pen 1, where nothing has hatched, but 2 hens were sitting tight. Pulled them and candled, and 2 were bad, so that left 6 good ones from this nest. So now, I've got 14 eggs in my backup bator, back to square one!

The birds from pen 1 are supposed to be sold tomorrow, so if these eggs hatch, it'll either be me or the pen 2 gang raising them...probably me. I WILL be having Silkie chicks for sale!

Donna ~ That spotted chick doesn't even look like a Marans to me. Different breed may have gotten in there? As for the Cuckoos, I don't do Cuckoo, but aren't the males supposed to have a spot on their heads? Or is it the other way around? Either way, I see a lot of spots, so that's either really bad or really good. Big help there, huh??

Chime in you Cuckoo folks!

DMRippy, go to google and type in sexing cuckoo marans. There is a great website that tells you....lighter color chicks with big headspots are males. darker black chicks with no or little headspots are female. Look on google!

I will.... I think that is for goldens though.....

Ok, I looked and you seem to be right... but I still need someone to tell me. I would have to look at a lot of pics to be sure.
