Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I will.... I think that is for goldens though.....
sexing cuckoos works the same way no matter whether its golden, regulars, or blues. The males will have a more silver appearance on their body, with a well defined spot on their head, often covering a large portion of their head. Pullets are often black by appearance with a much smaller, less defined spot or none at all

One more what color and gender are these cuckoos? I am new the cuckoo sexing thing....

I think all these are reg cuckoo

This is a younger group and 2 are blue? 6&8

Tell me please how you sex cuckoos? I have someone that wants four and I don't want to give them all roos. I don't mind giving them all pullets if that is what they want. I just don't know who is who?
So 1 and 6 are roos. Silver with big spots. I think 2 is a pullet.... I have one I am keeping and she is blue with a small spot. So 3,4,5,7 and 9 are roos???????? I can't tell anything from the pic on 8 except it is blue

ugh...my internet is being a pain tonight, but I'll try to help. Its never 100% for me when I hatch out cuckoos, or did, as I will not be hatching them anymore. Some of it is kind of hard to tell from a photo because I can't see the coloring subtleties on the body and a couple of the chicks heads look a bit washed out from the light.

You said you are giving them 4? I'd think you'd be alright to give them 2, 7, 3 and then pic one of the ones with the bigger spot. Those will give you the best chances of them not getting all roos out of the bunch you have.

Thanks Donna, I shall travel over there. I sure hope they aren't all roos. #2 looks like a gal to me. The blue one looks like a roo to me. I'd best shut my mouth as I have no Cuckoo knowlege...
