Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thanks, Debbi!
#1 is a weird one - most of my birds are street sweepers - ?? -
He does have feathering, but it is sparse and very short (maybe 3/4" long)

Vicki - LOVE the silver chipmunk!!
Can't wait to see what those guys look like all grown up - will be an amazing pen!

Vicki - how did I do?
Those 3 boys were my own pick (my experiment!)
Did I do okay?

I'm thinking #2 is coming in too blonde and too long in the back - ?? -

When can you tell back length??
Could #3 grow into his back?

Tell Anna I said hi and that I am very sorry to hear of her predation issues and that she has to rehome her birds. That bites! Give her a big ol' Marans lovers hug from all of us!
I sure will....unfortunately she's selling out of birds all together since she's moving to Omaha and can't find a place that is willing to let her even have a couple of backyard layers.

Pink, that is great about the roo, hope that works out this time. I can't wait to see him

The eggs hatching .....

you are doing great Katelyn. I see something in each of them that is intriguing for very different reasons. Number 1 is my favorite for body type and consistency of shape, but the other two also have potential. The 3rd one, don't give up hope on yet. One of these days I'll have to see if I can find some pics in my albums of Gigantor and Big Boy when they were about that age....they were a lot like number 3...all awkward and crazy looking. But they turned out huge...I think he might be a big boy and will take longer to grow into himself.

I can't wait to see how these chicks feather out!

As far as I'm concerned, you can never have too long a back in a roo! So many hens are short backed, and the roo will improve it. I think like Vicki, he is going to be a BIG boy when he starts to mature! Just me, but I would hold onto that one...at least for a few more months.

haha - I hope you're right ladies - #2 and #3, especially, are awfully awkward looking right now - as if their heads need to grow into their bodies!

Looks like I better be hoping for a little cockerel or two to be in this bunch hatching now.

Think of large breed puppies, with those monsterously HUGE feet! They do grow into them in time!
