I've got 8 Black and Blue Copper Marans eggs under a Blue Copper broody. 2 of them are even her own eggs because I managed to figure out she was going broody with enough time to collect a couple of her eggs - and these are all girls I was hoping to test hatch from this summer anyway. My Blue Copper cock is looking worn out these days because he's running with a BIG crowd but I've seen him cover the 3 girls I've collected from so ....

. I know lots can go wrong with hatching Marans eggs and broodies so this should be interesting. But I'm thinking ALL good thoughts!!

Ahhhhhh! So cute! We have the same batch & they were in the same brooder... I did a double take when I saw these photos!
I think our chicks might be just a week ahead of yours, we hatched on mothers day.

So freaking cute!

Morning all

I was talking to my friend on the phone last night, when I heard a strange peep coming from the brooder room. Sure enough, one of my eggs had hatched, and it's a Blue with nice shank/toe feathering! I'm thinking it is by Clyde out of my Splash girl Dopey. This morning....TA DA!!! I HAVE A BIG WHEATEN CHICK IN THERE!!!

So excited! So there may be hope for more of them to hatch today, or even tomorrow. Today is day 23, and that is pretty typical for my Marans here for some reason. I've gotten used to the Silkies all hatching on day 20 for the most part, so the extra days are hard to wait for me. This is one big chick from the looks of it, more than likely, a roo. I'll take it! Now, c'mon you other sleepy Wheaties!!!
