Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

well played ... well played ,

just seems like i can only laugh at the situation i have put myself and my feathered friends into. but as i am learning the money is minimal compared to seeing my significant other happy. the most interesting thing is ...

she wanted this little fowl farm and now being pregnant ... i want her no-where close to them so i am doing all the work. before she loved to get out and do the chores, we both shared them. BUT NOW ... O NOW its all me.

glad i could put a smile on my BYC friends at my frustration, but i have to laugh as well. i feel as if the learning and spending is no-where close to ending. but the Roo Soup will be a nice reflection of rules now that i am n charge (while she is not looking that is). just hope she doesnt check the forum and see what i have put or Clyde wont be the only Roos in hater water.

What's being pregnant got to do with chicken chores?? Excercise is great for pregnant women! I was breeding, showing, and training dogs, and butchering rabbits and chickens throughout BOTH pregnancies. The only thing she really needs to stay clear of is the cat's litter box! Cat feces can have harmful effects on the fetus.

Believe me when I say, this is an never ending, ongoing learning process here! NO one knows everything, and even if they did, that same knowledge may not be pertinent to someone else's flock. It sure does help to have a sense of humor about it! Here's to hoping that Clyde is the only one in the stew pot!

Hi there, Any thoughts on gender for this chick? She/he is 1 month old today and Im starting to get a bit nervous. She's a card and the smartest one of the flock. Thank you and sorry for the photos!

I have sooooo wanted Geese for the longest time but wanted Pilgrims. Just couldn't get non-hatchery stock over here and was not going to try shipped eggs. So when DH found these Africans that needed a home ASAP....you betcha I was all over it.

Some first night it was last night........at midnight I was down finding babies and taking them all away. What a mess and the other broody is so upset that she is not setting.

Bill ......decided that he just had to know what was going on in there and flew up to the top of the coop run and went in yesterday afternoon (got his butt kicked by Daddy gander (Ben is his name....and we named the other male Aflac, lol!) but man all mightly what a ruckus that he caused. No wonder the ladies are all freaked out and won't sit and abandoned the babies last night.

BAD BILL!!!!!!!!!!! Little nosy trouble maker.

No clue as to where Bad Charlotte, Bad Olivia and Bad Betty all got it from.

that's pretty funny. Bill sounds like he's a regular goof sometimes!

Gilavina, you're not kidding on the twin thing!!! My girl is from Marquisella, only one of a dozen i had shipped last year that made it. How fun!!
isn't it pretty uncanny how similar they are?
I just put some shipped birchen eggs in the incubator this early AM already crossing my fingers to get more than 1 to hatch haha!

I had chicks shipped. 2 died in transit, the rest became victims to a skunk, he tore up all the youngsters in my main coop that were still sleeping on the ground (he met his maker and dare anything try to break into the coop now!!!). Never had good luck with shipped eggs :(

I hate predators! Grrr.... I've had a mixed bag with the hatching eggs. I'm hoping, hoping, hoping I can get a decent number to hatch!
