Here's some my my chicks that I've been growing out... they are all just a hair past 8 weeks now. Just wanted to see what you think about them, and there's absolutely no need to spare my feelings! Honesty is welcomed and appreciated.
Sorry I couldn't get any further away from them, but this is a friendly bunch - everybody wanted to be in my lap.
Blue Copper boy:
Black Copper boy:
Splash Cuckoo boy (I have come to terms with the boyness):
The Cuckoo is half the size of his hatchmates, but he sure brings a nice pop of color in an otherwise dark pen... all of the others in with him are black except for the Blue Copper.
I like the blue and the black. The Splash boy does nothing for me. Clean shanks and too high a tail set. The others are looking good for their ages. JMO
Quote: I can hear pop=pop=pop now. More fireworks. I goes on for about a week. THe 4th is to morrow and I'm already done with the holiday as our fireworks were Fri night. ANd DH leaves extra early to for work in Boston as the crowds are expected to be more than usual. Not what we consider fun either. I would like peace again.

Well if you are as dry as we are, and it's illegal for fireworks in MA, I think I'd be calling the cops! I haven't heard a single firework go off since I talked to the neighbor boys. That said, the idiots from St. Louis have just come out to their property, so there's no telling what they may bring out here!
Quote: THe fire departments all run sanctioned events under controlled conditions. Just gets annoying because every town around must celebrate, on a different night. As for rain, rain has been frequent here in recent weeks. An afternoon rain almost every day. Great for the gardens and keeps everything moist and the ducks are under every leaf looking for goodies!

We are under a no burn restriction right now, includes fireworks and alot of the communities in our area are canceling their fireworks or reschduling them. We are hoping that none of our tenants decide to light fireworks and send our buildings up in smoke!
I wish you could too Arielle! The inch or so we got yesterday, wasn't nearly enough. I was in the garden the evening before the rain, and noticed some black things hanging off my tomato plants, ??? They were Cut worms, that had literally fried in the sun and heat! Black, like they had been fried in a pan!! Good for me, the greedy little buggers won't be eating my plants!
Found 4 of them the same way this morning! Guess it's time for more Sevin Dust, but I hate that stuff...

wow fried , dehydrated, cut worms!! yuck. Hope the tomatoes are surviving the drought. I know they like the heat! Glad for the 1 inch of rain--softens the ground for the next rain. DO you know a good rain dance?
My 2 children are good for bug hunting. Tonight it was scouting for Japanese beetles to feed the chooks! I'll put them on a tomato worm hunt when I see leaves disappearing.

My chooks don't seem to like the Japanese beetles? If the kids are looking for them, tell them to be sure to look on Morning Glories, and if you have an Sweet Basil growing, they LOVE that! Now we have the grasshoppers coming in, katydids, and cicadas. Like a Biblical plague out here!
