Arielle - sorry to hear about your birds...that's really hard.
Sulmet or Corid should help

Someone (Vicki?) posted an electrolyte mix the other day - I'm not sure you can mix the electrolytes with the medication, though.
If they're not getting to the water under their own power, I'd spend your efforts on the medicated water.

Are they well enough to control their bodies?
Can you put them in a smaller box where water and food is always within beak range?

or, if they can't stay up on their keel, fashion a birdy sling with water available right at eye level?

I try and be thankful, Its hard though. I have a serious neck injury to where I have Major pain in my neck. I actually have a battery implanted under my shoulder blade with wires that run up to my neck. It sends electrical signals to my spine to disrupt the pain. It helps but not enough. I have tried everything. Im 38 and am missing the best years of my life. Im trying to find a doctor who will try fusing my neck. I would rather get a couple years being pain free than this.

Is everyone sleeping in this morning?? I woke up freezing this morning with the fan going, and it was 63*! I'm sure that won't last long, going back up to 100* again today, and higher tomorrow. Maybe we'll have another shower to help ease it.

Laughing Clown, I think you are very fortunate to have survived that crash! I don't know if neck fusions are much like the back fusions or not, but I have known a couple of folks that had the back fusion and really regretted doing it. Look long and hard in researching and asking others before jumping in. I know how it is to hurt all the time, it's no picnic, but still beats the alternative that could've resulted.

Arielle: I'm with Hens n Roos on this, we had some coccidia earlier this year, I gave the Amprollium (sp) first which didn't work nearly as well as the Sulmet, which we switched to. Turns out the medicated feed we were giving was already laced with Amprollium so switching up meds made a huge improvement, good luck to you on this.
Katelyn, the vet came today and checked out the piggies for the fair, they said we are looking good! I'm both happy and surprised. They did recommend a little more working with the pigs and a fattening feed for the little guy, but otherwise, they look good. I am SO relieved. 2 more weeks till the fair.

4 out of 7 FBCM gone; 1 iffy which I don't expect to make the night. Leaves 2 doing ok. I've been collecting eggs again. Very tempted to put them in the incubator. Have chicks on SUlmet--but as you know it only works if they are drinking. I wake them all up periodically to come drink and find another one has passed away. Newbie mistake. I"ve been trying to avoid newbie mistakes but I guess that is par for the course and absolutely required to gradualte from newbie to experienced.

So sorry....that stinks.

I find that bringing in clumps of grass with the dirt still seems to get their systems ready for outside life.
But that couldn't have prevented exposure from the outside gravel...

Yes, we end with an auction, supposed to gather buyers... So confusing all this stuff! We've had people tell us they'd be interested in 1/2 a pig, but I'm still figuring out how to tell them prices. Hatfield and some other meat place will be there to buy as well, so we've been told they do NOT come home with us.

Are you all showing anything this year?

My son is going to show his BCM cockerel. That should be interesting. This is the first year for our 4H to have a poultry club and we are scrambling to find cages (we need to bring our own). Getting my blood drawn this Tues coming on the birds.

Well....for the 1/2 a pig - you can either invite them to the auction or plan to buy one of the pigs and share.
I'll have to ask SO the going rate per lb right now- it usually comes to that.

Here, a lot of the local businesses buy the pigs and then donate them back to the auction.
Lots of friends and family show up to watch and buy, too!

3 different butcher companies are available and they take care of hauling to their site, butchering, and packing.
You can call whomever the butcher is and find out what their costs are for butchering a pig.

If the chicks are not drinking enough, they are not getting the meds. So, I estimated how much water they should drink in a day and calculated the amount of Sulmet. I have liquid sulfa____ and insulin syringes, so dosed the sickest birds. Pray it works.

I do find it interesting that the marans are the hardest hit. Maybe they ate the most dirt. Or France doesn't have coccidia! LOL

Oh trust me, I know the risks. That being said I have talked to a lot of people and they have said they feel 10 times better. I take a lot of pain meds. Im sick of taking them. Thats one reason why I want to try a more evasive surgery. Why would I survive the accident and then die a slow death by medications. I take a vicodin and it just takes the edge off. Its still there. I have tried acupucture, of sorts. I have gotten countless shots into my neck and the base of my skull. Also they have stuck these huge needles into my neck and then heat them. This cartorizes the nerves that creat pain. The nerves slowly grows back. I have had this done 3 times. Feels like a cigarette being burned into my skin. It is what it is. I cant do anything about it. It just sucks being so young and going through this. It makes me fearful as to what old age will be like. If I get there. Any way back to Marans and enough about me.

Arielle sorry about your birds. I have so far been very fortunate and not lossed any birds since I have gotten into chickens. I hope I never do. On a good note Im putting my eggs into Lockdown tomorrow. I hope by Tue I have some fluffy penguins! Mine always seem to start hatching a little early.
