I have been buying about 1500 lbs a month of feed and it would be about 2000lb if I didn't use the barley.

HUNDREDS.... I don't really know. I just gave away between 150-200 roos in the past 2 months. I think that was REALLY sucking on my feed bill. I just bought 1500lbs more and hope since the roos are gone that will last 2 months

I understand most of you dont know me other than what few posts i have placed on here. I am still fairly new. But If all of you could have it in your hearts to pray for my family and I would be very grateful. I am an honest christian man who was brought up to have integrity. Unfortunately I have a lot of things and people who do not believe in these principles coming at me. It is threatening my way of life, my career, my family and my honor. Hey Vicki, we didn't get any rain last night either. Had a 65% chance, and it blew north and south of me!

We are supposed to get the 80* weather this weekend I think, so maybe I can finally start getting some pens together. Going to be hot again today though.

Left the 3 Marans chicks out all day yesterday as there was a nice breeze. Still got up to 102*, and they were all standing by the gate when I went out to check on them in the late afternoon. As soon as they saw me, the whining ensued!

Big babies! Got to say, these will be my tamest chickens ever! As of this weekend, they will be permanently OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!

I have had that scaly leg thing go on here too. As you said, just with the mature males. At first I thought too that is was mites, but it was not. I tend to think it's a hormonal thing, and it doesn't seem to bother them at all. Seems like the first time I saw it, was when the two dark boys were about a year old. None of my hens or young cockerels ever get it.

First off......where are you? And..... are you looking for breeding quality or just a dark egg layer? If you are just looking for dark eggs, breeders are often looking to rehome poor breeding quality birds.

Also I would be remiss if I did not correct you, it's Marans with an s even when it's singular.

I have a black and blue maran i believe they are both males. At first i thought the blue was a female but i see bleeding on the wings now and saddle feathers coming in so that went out the window lol. I purchased them from a local breeder said to have Jean Wade lines etc... I know they are babies here but can you give me a quick critique? I know the black is far from standard for sure as he has color on the chest and not a lot of feathering on the shanks but i plan to use him to make Olive eager's with my Ameraucana's so no biggie. So impute please and i will take some new pics this evening of them now. I will say that the black boy has the most incandescent colors on his feather now though. The blue boy looks like he will have the perfect markings as far as color and has very fluffy legs i have not counted the comb points but i will this afternoon after reading the thread and of both of these he is wider in the chest and stands pretty so i hope he turns out well cause my kids will be showing him in 4-h in the spring.
