Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi Everyone,
I come on here and read once in a while. I do not breed, but I have BCM's from a breeder. I got them at one week old and raised them from babies. They were born the last week of March. I would like to introduce you to my girls as well as a pretty roo I gave to my brother.

This is Marion. She is the top of the pecking order.

This is Maggie. her coloring is wrong, and she is the runt of the group, but is the most easy going girl in the group. Her personality is wonderful.

This is Michelle. She is the biggest of the three. I always call her the one with the hairy legs....lol

Here is the roo I gave to my brother because my hubby won't let me have one. He has a boo boo on his comb because he was being a bad boy and chased my brother's wife out of the run and got his comb shut in the door.

Some of my first eggs. The first one was laid by my Buff Orpington. The second was laid by Michelle, and the third one was laid by Maggie. Not perfect, but very delicious!

Thanks for looking!

Just an update on the Cocci outbreak.... the one little blue cuckoo marans that I thought would die over night, did not.... that is a great thing as she has feathered legs. 2 little EE died in one brooder.... but no deaths in the other brooders

Only one chick looks punny now. There was not much bloody poo today either. So glad I had the meds on hand and could give it to them on the spot. When I bought it I had to go to 3 stores and took 2 days to finally find it. That would have killed them all if I had to do that again.

Yikes.... I fear that I never have to deal with someone of the sort. Poor little babies...

Well for us, this weekend has been good. We sold/re-rehomed 6 barnyard mix birds to some wonderful new homes. I have a potential home for 3 more pullets all lined up. Just letting the marans grow up to see what we end up with. They always seem to get attention from anyone that comes here lol. Lots of "ooooooooOOOOOooo" over them. I have to say, they sure make a statement when next to a plain ole barnyard mutt

But really, they are all great and I am glad that I have become "the crazy chicken lady"
