Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Elisha~ I am very happy to hear that you found it is not a sprig. In my experience (and I wish others would share theirs too) but IME, this point will not move back into the line of things, know what I mean? I believe that as she gets closer to lay and her comb gets larger that this little kink or twist might get more prominant, but I will send out positive vibes in hopes that it corrects itself. It's the waiting game. She is a super lovely pullet no matter what.

Math Ace~ Your Welcome and Thank You, but I really did nothing except share some challenges that I have come up against in my flocks.

I am sorry that you found this on one of your birds. I know exactly how frustrating and disappointing it is.

I think this is a perfect example of digital photography not being your friend. Everything is too dark and contrast is too high.

Also, I don't believe this is "lacing" from a genetic point of view but rather "edging": I'm also not convinced the comb is "twisted".  Screwy point, maybe.

Edging, Thanks Barb! I seriously need to work on my terminology and will try to be more on top of it in the future....I know that it can cause confusion and that is something I don't want to add. :)

I would prefer a wiggle in the comb then a sprig.... I know my birds are not perfect- but I don't want to pass on any huge defects. Genetics are all new to me and like I tell my husband- if we are going to do any breeding- even if just for egg layers- I want to keep out the bad genetic stuff like sprigs or extra toes.....

I think solid Blue Marans are stunning!!!! How old is he Vivi?
How long have you been working with them?

Oh about 4 years now. He is young about 5 months. I have two gonna geow them out then decide which to keep. I need to get a hold of a freind of mine that lives in Southfork country club who raises FCBM, we are going to do some trading.

I would like to point out how wrong it is that BYC penalizes people for not keeping the forum children friendly, YET allows testerone ads to run on the side of the page... Seriously, a lady dressed in a skin tight yellow dress and provacatively posed sits to the left of the BYC content.

I am especially offended with this new ad policy when this thread - the marans thread - is heavily monitored to make sure we don't post anything not child friendly or slightly off color.... It just seems to be hypocritical...

Just my two cents and now I am going to check out my other posts... BEFORE I get in trouble here
