Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Good idea. I'm going to take a gun and a knife too and probably one of my dogs, extra baggy clothing with extra layers and long underwear

. Seriously...major creep.

beware, in some parts of the country the items you describe are considered stylish invitations, heh heh

*Edited to add* I do not own this bird, but he is from me. He is about 6 mos. old. He hatched from some of the darkest eggs I got this year from my flock of current breeders. He looks like he should be useable for breeding unless others see something I can't.
:)

I wondered if he was one of yours. He is nice and better looking than my current Roos. I might just have to go pick him up!!;)

I have some cuckoo chicks.... let me see if I can get some pics. It is usually obvious as they feather in. Roos are much WHITER. At hatch the roos have a bigger head spot. I have some that are a few weeks old and I have some that are a few days old, well Becky has them.... they were shipped to her. I am picking them up tomorrow and I can show you the differences. She said it looked like I had 5 pullets and 3 roos

I find with ours that the roos seem to have straighter lines of white and the girls have more patchy white- almost like some one splattered them with a paint brush.

Morning!

Just got done with chores, which is a muddy mess. We got RAIN last night, and lots of it for us after the months of dryness! I just hope my light sussex that have been looking so gorgeous don't go splashing around in the puddles! I know my youngest Marans are playing in them right now. They really are water hounds!
I don't know if I'll be able to get any decent photos, but I'll try if this cloud cover burns off finally.
