Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hens and Roos - please don't go by this pic to make ANY decisions. I can't tell you whether or not it's even a good quality pair. It was just the first one I found when Googling, and I was curious to see the face color.

No worries about making decisions just yet, but it is nice to at least get an idea of what mulberry face ment.

Wynette, Vicki and myself had discussed a while back by PM or email about speaking with a good Modern Game breeder about some of these same things, There are two of the very best Modern Breeders that show at Columbus and we can ask them about the Mulberry face. At one time I bred several colors of Moderns in large numbers. My mentor in Moderns was John Wunderlick.

Folks, here is a picture of the Birchen variety directly from the French Marans site:

RED, not mulberry, in the face. I guess if it was me, I'd breed for red. Some breeds have mulberry faces, Marans apparently do not.

Wynette, Maybee they didn't have any colored the right way.The female on the right sure does have Mulberry face, The APA determines all this in the long run. I would do the dark face, The dark face to difficult for most but if we are going for it why not shoot for what is correct.

I have comments on all this as usual but am waiting for others to comment.
