Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I see everyone who has Splash Marans has "solid" splash....there isn't any copper. I have Splash hens and a Splash Copper rooster. Should I try to find a different rooster or hope to breed Splash Copper chicks?

Splash is generally not recognized by the APA, the only one I can think of is Silkies. Trying to call it a copper splash is not correct because a "splash" should ony have 2 colors, not 3. At least that is how it was explained to me by a judge.

Just thought I'd post a pic of the first eggies I got this morning! I love the roundness and the color isn't doing too bad considering the Marans egg is from a birchen!

Vicki, The spherical was missing in the BC Marans I was working with. My wheaten lay the Spherical egg only.

Good to see you! Hope you are doing well.
I am awaiting the rest of the young pullets to start laying eggs. I'm curious to see the shape and egg color. I have silvers, birchens, and coppers that are not far away now at all. After I see what color eggs they lay, I'll make the last round of culling before it gets terribly cold.

I am looking for clean legged marans of any color. Anybody raise the clean legged variety or know someone who does?
