Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

You are a good MOMMY!

I just finished school a few years ago (at 38 years old) then got married had a baby, bought a house, remodeled it, sold it, had another baby, got chickens ..... and it has been down hill every since

We are working on another house now and THEN we can think about BUILDING our FOREVER Home

I am tired just thinking about it too

Once we get the NEW house I can think about doing things like that FINALLY!
I finished at 40 two years ago. I'm 3 months away from my FNP, but I'm tp tired to think about it. I missed so mush cuz my head was stuck in a book and or computer. I love living out in the country in the middle of no where. Nothing like a good cup of coffee out by the Koi pond or just sitting under the tree with a cool sweet breeze from the roses and fruit trees. VIVI

If you look at this guy, you can see that he has a sprig at the back of his comb.
Basically, he has a point that comes out of the side instead of straight up like it is supposed to.

I had one that was gorgeous with the exception of a sprig...
I can't find a picture of him..

Awesome bird!

Thank you, they are from some of my best Marans I lost to a coon.

Sorry to hear that.

But it's exactly why I have an incubator. If I lose a bird or ten I want to hatch ASAP to do my best to replace them. I encourage everyone with small flocks to keep at least a cheep incubator in case of just such a loss!

One of my newly laying pullets (Black Copper) laid this egg the other day. Every time I look at it, it makes me smile, it is so funny.

I have gotten a few like that. They are kinda cool looking.

I have a few new pullets that are laying some REALLY dark eggs... I need to check them with the scale. I set about 8 today. I can't wait to see if they hatch. Does anyone have a hard time hatching DARK eggs? I am expecting fewer to hatch, is that reasonable?
