One thing I don't like about Cree birds is their Wheaten/Blue Wheatens don't have the best combs or tails in the parent stock, and this guy has a good comb. . . .

GREAT idea. We've been planning for a while now that next year we'll start doing meat birds too, and base them off Marans. . . If he keeps a good, huge body - Who cares about his color, he's a good dad for meat.

Hi all- I HAVE A QUESTIONS FOR ALL YOU MARANS LOVERS!! I curently have a small flock of BC marans that is from PRESILEY/JEANE lines. (hope I didn't butcher their names) Anyway, I am looking for some eggs to hatch and I found someone on ebay. Yes, I cringed too. Scarey. But, I saw the eggs from someone here on byc and they were really dark. Finally, HERE IS THE QUESTION..... the buyer that purchased these eggs says he ( the seller) said he gets some sport color chicks in his black copper line. And she actually hatched out 2 of them in her hatch. So do I want to stay away from this line, do you think this line is pure. Or does this happen with some well known lines?
What does one do with these sport colored chicks?
Have any of you had this happen?

Sports are not abnormal on the Wade lines... That is the Jeane line you mention. (Wade Jeane)

Do you want "sports"? that is the question. some ppl want them and consider it a 2fer. Mine presley/wades throw sports. I know which hen and which roo. I can prevent them by omitting the hen and roo but they are from extremely dark lines. So you would potentially have two lines...both Wheaton ("sports" as you called them) and BC. Review the seller and make sure that they are credible... Get as close to the early birds as you can. I personally see no problem with wheatons if you are wanting the color. If the seller is up front about it and has good reviews... have fun!!!
