March 2017! Hatch with us!

It went great - I'm not sure our local peeps quite understand that $15 for a SFH is a deal! I will keep worrying though, until I hear they got home okay.

It happens here too. Had a lady want some chocolate orps, then we discussed selling my entire flock to her....until I gave her a price! She admitted she hadn't researched enough.

Five days to lockdown or five days to hatch?

Lockdown today or tomorrow, due Friday!

It's at 99 to 100 now. That was just one time that it hit 104 the other day

Remember inside the egg takes longer to adjust, so quick spikes aren't automatically a death sentence.

I am at a loss the eggs I have in the incubator have done nothing not a one Saturday was day 21 but no pip yet temp has been constant and I dry incubated them at 30% until lockdown then 70% after lockdown only factor I had was I had to put the eggs from my bantam in it after I found they were abandoned and I got 10 hatches from 11 eggs I will let them stay in until my new eggs get here but then will have to clean it out and get ready for them after I let stand for a day. But where did I go wrong??

Could you have had any temp spikes that you didn't know about? And I agree, calibrate your meters and make sure they are accurate.

Yea I will do the float test too since I can't see through the shell as good I have two hygrometers and two temp gauges so I think the temp was ok it's my second hatch and I did so good with my first hatch with insermoutable odds I still got a 25% hatch which was astounding to me seeing that the eggs were over20 days old and refridgerated !! Here I have fresh eggs and nothing!!

Float tests aren't always accurate!! It can verify life, but cannot verify that its dead. The chicks rest. So please be very careful if you do that.
Also, if you are having a tough time seeing in the eggs, have you replaced batteries? Maybe try a new light? The more lumens, the better. Makes a huge difference. :fl

for us both!

13 of 18 made it to lockdown today! Good luck, everyone! I'm hoping for a decent first hatch for this newbie... couldn't stop worrying about it all night lol.

That's excellent for a first hatch!

And by the way, if last night was bad... well, let's just say you are in for a few more sleepless nights.

Good luck!

Tried to peek under my broody this morning, but its still kinda cold out, so in case there are pips, I didn't want to bother her too much. I didn't hear any peeping, but with a few roosters crowing, its a bit difficult! Tomorrow is technically day 21 for her, but she's and OEGB on Serama eggs, so they could come early. Usually hatch on day 20 for me. But its also been cold out, so a little later wouldn't surprise me either.

Good luck to sweet Harriett!

awe... So sweet! (Unless you try to touch her eggs of course...)

Surprisingly, this one lets me pet her (which she never did before she went broody last year!) She will vehemently defend her chicks, but she seems to trust me, and only me.

Since its a little slow this morning, and who doesn't love chick pics, I'll share some of my favorite shots from last summer:
