March 2017! Hatch with us!

Who do you consider best to bid on on EBay? I put 2 of Skywalkers auctions on my watchlist and a couple others. Since I am getting ready for lockdown and hopefully have learned a lot....considering resetting that 'bator next week. :)

I will send you a pm :) I like my local guy (Papas Poultry) the very best because I have not had a ton of success with shipped Bieles (I truly do bid based on only getting a couple of chicks to hatch, which is why I could never pay the crazy high prices most of those auctions get to! )

I think you've just had crappy luck so far. I got shipped Serama eggs from Florida to WV. She sent me 19 eggs, 2 never developed, and one bloodring early. The other 16 made it to lockdown and only 5 didn't hatch! And we're talking tiny seramas with a lethal gene! Packing was excellent, and the post office was kind. (omg, did I just type that? lol)

My point being that maybe your location or the routes coming to you have just been bad. Or you've had less-than-stellar shippers?

I've had crappy results from shipped eggs also, but I keep trying because sometimes we do get lucky!

I've also found that if shippers send super fresh eggs, they do a lot better! I've had great results , and terrible results (0) Bieles have been some of my worst

I have had good luck and poor luck on Ebay. I stopped bidding on any eggslast year. . But every once in a while I would check. I bid on 12 silkie/sizzle eggs last month. I paid more than I wanted. They sent 6 extras, and I had 13 of 18 hatch. So, I bid on another dozen, and paid half of what I did previously. But then went crazy and bid on 7 other auctions. I won 5 of them - 4 as the only bidder. I currently have 60 shipped ebay eggs in my incubator - from 5 different people. I'll say they all packaged the eggs beautifully. They are on day 5 - I'll let you know how well they do. I feel WAY more comfortable buying eggs here on BYC.

On the Blue Wyandottes I got, the auction was for 6 eggs, they sent 8. One was cracked, too shattered to save. I cracked it into a bowl and checked fertility and it wasn't fertile. So, I'm a little concerned about the other 7.

On Ebay, most people add their feedback when they get the eggs. I would think it would be better to read feedback after the eggs hatch, or don't hatch.

That's so interesting... backyarders... makes me wonder about genetics? From different birds each time? Any deformities? Now you've piqued my curiosity.

I have not ran into any deformities. The chick I assisted last wknd hadn't tucked its head under its right wing but that was it. Last week it was a smaller egg that had the issue, where as this week it's a bigger egg. It has me a little complexed to say the least. I just want to make sure it's not something I'm doing which out of 30 eggs to have 3 pip the wrong end doesn't point to anything I'm doing. At least I hope that's not the case and am slowly insuring myself it isn't.

I just stopped by the house to check on them and two have hatched sense 8:30 this morning. The poor guy who piped wrong still hasn't progressed so once I get home for the evening I may assist him.

Got turkeys on lockdown. So nervous! Last time I incubated turkeys, no eggs even started developing. Need these 4 to hatch, and need at least 1 hen. Go little eggs, go!

Cool, someone else with turkeys in the incubator! I'm only on day 16 though. This has been the slowest going incubation ever. I hope your four little ones hatch.
