March 2017! Hatch with us!

I have a question. One of the turkey's pipped internally yesterday morning. It has still not externally pipped and it's been just about 24 hours since I saw the pip. Should I make a breathing hole or do turkey's take a long time? It's still alive and cheeping some.

Sweet. My first batch goes into lockdown tomorrow, my second batch and my broody still have twelve days.

Me too, I love ducks! Unfortunately where I live any standing water/pond equals mosquito over population! So I have no pond to offer to ducks. Boouck hatchlings, raiised them and loved them and they were awesome tame adults. When season came to "migrate"(?) they all took off. Curly, Mo and Larry.
Are there any breeds of duck that Do stay where they're raised and if so, what kinds of water solutions are suggested (bearing in mind the standing water mosquito dynamic)?

Congrats on all of the duck hatches going on!

You're gonna love this. I have 4 black swedish ducks at home, 3 hens and a drake. The rest of my ducks are all drakes, so I took them to my farm pond. They stick around, because I feed them. lol And they can fly a little, but not way up in the air like wild ducks.

Well this year, I have a visiting pair of wild wood ducks! They have been hanging around for about 3 weeks now, so I think she has made her nest somewhere nearby to raise her babies on my pond. When they come around, my ducks usually get away, but I think they are starting to accept them.

Not the best pic, but I can't get too close, they fly away. The male is on the far right, the female is above my black duck's tail, just to the right of the white post. The black and white ducks are mine.

I'm pretty sure that turkey eggs can take up to 48 hours, but let someone else chime in. I only hatched a lone turkey once.
Also, my theory on breathing holes depends more on the relative size of the air cell, more than the clock. If its a small air cell, I may do it quicker, but a larger air cell, I may give a little longer. JMHO

I have ducklings! Woot! Woot! 2 so far! A boy and a girl!

What breed??

Can I join a wee bit late? :)

I've got 11 mixes (Cream Legbar over Marans, Blue Orp, etc) in my new Brinsea 40 advance (which I'd highly recommend), due to hatch on Tuesday.

I'm really quite nervous since my previous chicken hatches have all gone terribly, and also I'm hatching them for a lady who's cockerel sadly died, so I'm trying to get some of his offspring for her.

I LOVE my Brinseas. My hatches have gotten so much better since I started using those. Good luck with this hatch!! There will be plenty of other nervous hatchers in this group to keep you company!!! We love to answer questions.

I have 22 cochin bantam mixed colors for sure going on lockdown tonight. Started with 30 4 were not fertile and 4 got blood rings. Excited to see this hatch be a success as I had a batch of 20 fail last month right after lockdown. I'm going to be watching my incubator like a hawk.
