Well...out of 10 eggs I ended up with 2 good ones. I was afraid of that though. There were 6 that were just as clear as the day they went in and 2 that were all dark except for the air sac. But they had gotten wet and cold before they were given to me. But the last 2 are looking great and I'm watching very close.

My broody hatched 5 out of 9 so far but only 2 have made it through the first night. I think the other hens pecked them to death but I'm not sure. I went ahead and put a wired cage in the coop and blocked off the nesting box that she's been in so she can get in the cage and eat or drink but the other hens can't get to her or the chicks. Any other advice that I should try?

Oh no! I think you have to keep them separated if she's not protecting them. At least until they are a bit bigger and can get away. Then put some small hiding places that they can get in but the bigger bird can't.

What day are you on? Mine always start out slow, then get cranking after the first few chicks are out.

Hatching reminds me of popping popcorn
