Hey, I live north of Covington in Bush...everyone around here seems to know it as the place where the House of Seafood is located. We also are about 25 minutes from Slidell up 41: It is nice to know a fellow BYC'er is in the neighborhood. My husband and I drove over to Bay St. Louis after Katrina and that entire area was completely devestated: I had never seen anything like it...even the lower 9th ward didn't compare. Did you live there then?
Anyway, yes, it is David. I have been emailing him...it is easier for me since I have lousy cell and home phone service. I'll PM you his phone and email in a few minutes. It is closer for us to go through Poplarville...is that a bad idea? We don't mind bumpy back roads (never know what you will find), but if their is some reason we should avoid this route, please let me know.
Yes I lived in Lakeshore, before and after Katrina. She actually made landfall just a few miles from us,over the mouth of the Pearl River between Pearlington and Clermont harbor. It still upsets all of us that New Orleans publicly got the worst hit while we physically got it. Theirs was man made ours natural...with a 35+ft tidal surge.I lived 6 miles from the beach and we got more than 12 ft of water. We were actually here during the storm. We came out to find horses in second story homes my boys pony was in the powerlines, cows washed out on the beach...None of us were able to take pictures because most of our homes were gone. And no one even attempted to come in with help for almost a week afterwards. Therefore what little documentation we have is after a few weeks when we were let back in once we got out.
Anyway,No poplarville isn't a bad idea, just a LOOnnggg ride..lol...one of those ones that seem to last forever cause it's so boring...lol...Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll contact him and try to ride up this weekiend.
Couldn't agree more about the post-Katrina thing...guess people stranded on rooftops makes better news than people with no houses at all (it looked like a giant hand just swept everything away and deposited it somewhere else): Very sad. I can't even imagine seeing what you guys did....everybody's homes and belongings and all those poor animals....makes me want to cry.
Glad you have everything back on track now and let's just hope we have many hurricane free years to come. As to the drive....I like boring...it's why I moved to the middle of nowhere. Well, that and nobody can tell me how many chickens...goats, horses, cows, etc I am allowed to have, so I can buy as many critters as 6.5 acres can support! If you decide to scoot up to see Mr. David...I am shooting for around 1pm Sunday. He gave me first dibs since I contacted him in December, but as long as I take home 16 eggs +/- I'll be happy and he said he had more than 24: I'm not too greedy.
