putting them in tonight....
also candled my polish, looks like 6 out of 12...not bad i guess... This was the second time i've candled. I put a green mark on the ones i thought were good and a red mark on the duds... i don't do enough candling to know if i'm doing it correctly.... so i hope this helps me...
Thanks Sharon

adding...i don't think i'll be able to candle these....big smiles

Beautiful! Congrats!

My step-daughter just picked up an incubator for me from the local university. I'm going to try hatching eggs in my high school classroom. The plan is that they will come home with me. I have someone gathering potentially fertile eggs for me, a combination of Plymouth Bard Rocks and Cochins. I'm really excited about this, but have no experience at all, so we'll see. Plan B is that I know a woman in town who has too many chickens and would sell me a few that are already laying. I plan to put the eggs in the incubator on Wednesday, March 2nd:)

I haven't been posting much, sorry,
but I have tossed two of the six Bantam eggs, one clear, one blood ring.
the others are potentially good... good veining but I don't see a chick yet... ugh..
the others are marans, so really hard to candle, and I'm terrible at candling,
but they all seem to be developing, none are clears, no blood rings... and all have good air sacs.
so, those eight should all be good! I'm excited! one more week to lock down, then more little fuzzbutts!
the chicks in the brooder are outgrowing it!!! they are 3 1/2 weeks old and HUGE... also eating a TON...
I think I got a split of roos and pullets tho, so that is great...
I can't wait to see eggs! they should be pink on some of them!!!
:)

the ones in the bator now are for a friend... they are homegrown BCMs and mixed banties.

Last year I used my home made bator twice and it held temps rock solid throughout the three weeks.
This hatch has me pulling my hair out! The temps are all over the place and I don't think they've been stable yet. Oh yeah, for the three days it ran BEFORE I put the eggs in it was PERFECT!
I'm thinking I'll have to put in a new thermostat before I use it again.
Figures it would work perfect on my own free eggs but be a pain in the neck on eggs I bought! I've tried to keep a close eye on it and make small adjustments. My eggs are dark and hard to see into, but when I candled it looked like ALL were developing. Even the one I had to tape up after dropping the thermometer on it.
So, I might get fuzzy butts anyways.
