March Hatch A Long... anyone with me??

Rubbermaid totes are great. They are easy to clean and the sides are tall which helps keep the chicks in the "brooder"

Depending on the number of chicks you are hatching, I don't know if that would be big enough. They grow pretty quickly.

Probably don't need one that strong, depending on how far away the bulb is but I have had a devil of a time finding a red bulb that is less than 250W. Red bulbs are suggested to help keep them from pecking each other. I don't know why, but I do use one.

Thanks! Well it is a 50 gallon aquarium and am going into lockdown in a few days with 10 japanese bantam eggs and 1 serama

Candled last night on day 7 and have 6 serama eggs, 6 Olive Eggers, 5 bantam cochin and 6 BLRW still cooking! One of the BLRW was iffy, so I left it in. Hatch day is March 13!

I just set 6 Ameraucana eggs on Friday (2/25). This is my very first attempt! Bought a Brinsea ECO 20 and while waiting for my ordered eggs to come in (not until the end of March) I decided to hatch some of my hens pretty blue eggs.....

Kinda scared about candling them though. We looked at them before we put them in but I'm going to have to study those pictures more before we candle them. I'm still confused as to what I'm looking for so early!

But it will be fine! All is good

Day five - must sit on my hands - must not keep candeling the eggs - must leave them alone........I checked 12 out of the 41 eggs in the bator and they all are progressing right on schedule - must leave the bator alone, must leave the eggs alone - arggghhhhhh!!!!!!

I also candled last night and 3/9 looked like they were progressing like they should and the rest looked "sloshy" inside (best way I can describe it). I assume those eggs were probably damaged during shipping?

In the other incubator, 7/9 look like they are progressing and I am on the fence with the other two.

In incubator number 3 (yes, I have a problem) 5/7 have development.

I got an OvaScope, and I really like it.

I tried candling, but my eggs are dark and I'm not experienced enough to know exactly what I'm seeing. In the past, I simply let the broody girls do all the worrying. I've had some temperature issues (to put it mildly!) so I'll be very happy if anybody hatches.
Although, to me, they ALL look like they are filling up nicely. Even the one I dented when I dropped the thermometer on them and had to scotch tape it. None looked clear, and I didn't see anything that looked like a blood ring.
As soon as this hatch is done, I'm going to rebuild my bator and see if I can correct the temp. problem before I get my Barnevelder eggs.
Just two days left until lockdown, so hatching should begin this weekend.

I have one incubator (old hovabator) hatching the 13th with 42 eggs and the 2nd incubator (LG) is due to hatch on the 16th with 40 eggs. We haven't filled the 3rd incubator, it has to be hand turned so we are waiting until we are here everyday and no appointments. LOL!

I'm going into lockdown on Thursday! Yipee!
I will candle one last time then... the marans eggs are hard to see in to anyway, so after I figured they were ok on day 10 or so, I have left them alone...
I have 4 week old chicks, so that really helps keep you out of the bator!!!
:)
