March Hatch-A-Long

I’m a first timer too! I candled at 7 days and could see veins in most of them. I checked a few days later and it was even more apparent. I used a headlamp so I could take pictures with my phone. Get as bright of a light as you can, cup your hand around it and the egg and shine through the air cell (fat end of the egg).
.
Thank you for explaining which side had the air cell, wasn't sure what peeps meant when they said that. So another question, if i set the eggs last Sunday that would make tomorrow, Sunday day 8, assuming you count the set day as day 1 correct? if so, i will candle tomorrow and then leave it alone. I do have two dark brown eggs in there so probably wont be able to see anything so may have to candle one more time before lockdown. I think I read somewhere if you leave a dud egg in there the entire time it could break and stink up the incubator and be bad for the developing chicks. Is this true?

The non-starters or infertile ones usually don’t cause havoc...it’s the quitters that are more likely to explode thanks to the build up of bacteria. :sick

Yes I’m in...and almost out! Today is day 18 for my 9 Mottled Java eggs. I have the TSC 21-egg Nurture 360 and so far temp has been spot on and humidity within range without fuss. Its my first batch so I’m checking myself at every detail. Candled one last time and I can see the air sac but the rest pretty solid dark on all of them. One egg looks different from the rest: it shows the air sac, and the rest above it maybe darker but what I notice most is just all-over porosity of the shell. Speckled. Could it be a thinner shell egg? Checked for smell and none smell spoiled.
