Today is lockdown day! I can no longer see into one of my EE mixes so I don't know if it's kicking or not but the other 14 are for sure.

I have an average of 16% weight loss. All the air cells looked good. No internal pipping.

You guys and your pictures! They're so cute!

I hope to have some soon to show everyone.

Congrats to all of you!! I am sorry I have been gone! I had a terrible tooth abscess (still fighting it) and my meds for it make me sick as a dog....then this weekend I lost my sweet Penny (buff orpington) to my own dog.....just minutes after holding her in my yard. I spent the whole weekend mourning her. This will be may last hatch for a while too unless I can find local fertile eggs or until I move and get my won roosters....I had about 4 dozen eggs in the incubator since the 2nd, and this is what went in the garbage today...various reasons, detached air cells , scrambled air cells, infertile (many of them) and blood rings....

this is what is left for the 23rd, and 5 of them are iffy:




anyhow, I am so excited for you all hatching and pipping!! CONGRATS!!

Boy u have had a tough wk!!!! Sorry about ur tooth !! And I hate that about penny .... I could see that happening with one of our dogs ... He gets jealous of any other animal getting attention I would be sick to throw out that many eggs I really hate that for you and I am sure there We're a lot of money and time invested in those eggs already! I sure hope the ones you have left hang in there and hatch!! It's second day of lockdown for me..... last night they were a rocking!!! I am so excited but I sure don't want to see them hatch or halfway hatch and loose them ... No pips yet that I know of and humidity is staying around 67% Wish my 31 eggs luck .....lol

Hi Threadgeek! I have the same issue with candling my dark brown eggs. All I can say is it's hard. But something I have found that can tell you if you have a live egg is run warm water into a bucket deep enough to float the egg. You want the water like bath warm but NOT HOT. Dead eggs will sink so you want water deep enough to submerg the egg. I take the questionable eggs on day 13-16 and float them in warm water. If the egg floats and wiggles around on its own you know there is a live chick inside. Its the only thing I have found as an alternative to candling dark eggs.

Doesn't the water get in through the egg pores and drown them?

Ohmy. Lockdown is in 2 days. Woooooooo. I'm excited first hatch from my new bator. Though I'm kinda nervous hubby had me add his game eggs to the bunch 2 weeks after I set, so now I have to hatch in my old homemade bator. I had absolutely no luck with that thing at all. Any advice? Hurry lock down is on wensday!!!
