March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Congrats to all of you!! I am sorry I have been gone! I had a terrible tooth abscess (still fighting it) and my meds for it make me sick as a dog....then this weekend I lost my sweet Penny (buff orpington) to my own dog.....just minutes after holding her in my yard. I spent the whole weekend mourning her. This will be may last hatch for a while too unless I can find local fertile eggs or until I move and get my won roosters....I had about 4 dozen eggs in the incubator since the 2nd, and this is what went in the garbage today...various reasons, detached air cells , scrambled air cells, infertile (many of them) and blood rings....

I've had a tooth abscess before... not fun! Sorry to hear about Penny and all your eggs too. You should try craigslist for local hatching eggs. I find lot on there. Even people that just sell their "farm fresh eggs"... their eggs might be fertile and you could tell them that you want them before they go into the fridge so you can try hatching them.

Ohmy. Lockdown is in 2 days. Woooooooo. I'm excited first hatch from my new bator. Though I'm kinda nervous hubby had me add his game eggs to the bunch 2 weeks after I set, so now I have to hatch in my old homemade bator. I had absolutely no luck with that thing at all. Any advice? Hurry lock down is on wensday!!!

Tell hubby that his game hen eggs will need to go into the homemade bator for a few days while yours are in lockdown/hatch... & then he can move them back after your eggs are done.

Sorry to hear about your hen.

It really is discouraging when your "throw out" box looks like that. I had a similar one for the NYD hatch-a-long. I set 80 eggs and at lockdown there were only 43 left.

maybe hatch in the new bator and put the game eggs in the old one and then move them back once your hatch is over.

Good Morning,

Gapeach, I am so sorry.............I don't know what else to say except I had an experience like this a few years ago.
I know now that my humidity was to high the first 18 days........ It was a NYD....had spent a fortune on shipped eggs (of course)
and had my husband begging me "can't you do something" )................
I hope you feel better soon from your tooth problem.
I am a little down this morning...sold 8 of my LF pullets I had hatched and raised and
silly as it may sound.....my heart hurts..............didn't expect to feel this way.
On the upside (maybe ) Had one of my three eggs hatch yesterday.a beautiful little
75% English Orp.Have another egg that has pipped..but my darned humidity dumped again
so I am not sure if it may be shrink wrapped.......

Really hope it makes it so I do not have to run to the feed sore to purchase a buddy.
Good hatching everyone.

Well, lockdown today!
Got 14 silkie eggs looking great.
Due to explode into the world on the 14th.
I must be lazier than most people here, as I just put them in lockdown and rarely go into the room they are in until I hear them making a racket.
Each of us has our own methods, but I do not help them, if they can't get their butts out of the egg and do their thing, I don't want to raise and breed them.
Now, that is not to say that I am not excited, I am like a little kid each time wondering how many I will get.
This is my first time for silkies, I have always liked their looks, so I am finally gonna have some.
Jim
