March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

maybe its the shelf liner stuff??? it doesnt smell like sewage but it has that same weird rubbery/minerally smell....I need to just stay away from it....ugh....I am gonna drive myself crazy.

Well I tried my first hatch last month and was a total failure. Made some upgrades on incubator and temp/humidity gauge. Setting at 6Am. I'm going to do a few things different this time to see if it will help. I have 15 eggs I collected. Most from my production reds. Throw in 2 RIR/EE eggs for the heck of it. Why not lol. Going to try the dry method this time around. Humidity at 37%-Temp at 100. So I guess well go from there. Won't candle till day 7, so I guess I will give update from there.

I am sorry honey. My first hatch was a HUGE disaster too. Lots of luck for the next one!!!

And now I understand why people have multiple incubators!!! Mine is full until mid-March. Arggggg!
um yeah....I have 3....and thinking of #4 and #5 already!!! LOL!!!

I don't know about other citrus, but mine love the oranges- so far just about any fruit & veg I give them they love. Well not lettuce, they won't eat that... Since 3 oranges weigh a pound

I can't send you a box- BUT you are welcome to come get some!

It's what, an 8-10 hr drive? You could be here b/f the PO could get them to ya anyway!
mine LOVE lettuce. wont touch clementines (but my German Shepherd loves them), and will put a hurting on a lobster or turkey carcass!!

Ok here are pics of my frizzle/sizzle? chicks- they are 3 days old today- just took these a few min ago. They were not happy little campers about it either. As you can see they are camera-shy. And so tiny. I'm concerned about the little blk one, seems weaker they the blue one...

i am SO glad to see these pics for 2 reasons, 1.) OH MY FREAKING GOSH!!!! SQUEEEE!!!!...ahem....and 2.) I have a ton of TINY little eggs due to hatch thursday and they are SO insanely small I cant see how something whole could ever come out of them!! LOL!!!

Peach -I am going to use filtered water when I go into lockdown on Monday. Maybe you can try that next time. Good luck :hugs. Everyone so glad that all is pretty good for u. Just dnt give up, this all is a wonderful learning experience. I hope to be back later tonight.

By the way, the eggs I've set are a mix of 12 buff Brahma and light Brahma.

I'm having so much trouble with fluctuating temperatures. Does anyone know if periods of 100 F in the first few days of incubating will kill chicks? I'm using a small forced air incubator. Thanks
100 will not hurt ur babies this just might hatch a lil early

So it is to early to candle right now? I can see in the eggs, but I've gotten mixed answers about candling on day 4.
Some do but i think you see more day 7
Also there is an idea about moving them the first 7 days when their organs and limbs are forming can mess them up
I like day 10 see a lot then even with dark eggs you can see if a chick is in there Usually take about about 2/3 of the egg but hard to wait that long i admit!

I agree .I used bottle baby purified water for the bator b/.c i have well water not sure what germs in it might harm the egglets

Thanks for your help re: 100 F being ok.

Well, just couldn't help myself....I candled. It's day 5 and I could see veins and red blobs with black dots in 4 out of 12 eggs! Yaay!!!!!!! Finally I have the possibility of SOMETHING hatching. This is my second try with an incubator. Had 3 broody hens last year, but nothing survived there either.

Oh, so looking forward to babies.

Hi everyone, my first time incubating
I set 25 eggs 3/4 at 2pm
and 4 fresh this am 3/5
due to hatch 3/26
breed is delaware rooster, with different hens delaware mix, new hampshire, and isa brown, the hens are all excellent layers. so hoping to get some good layers out of this hatch..
oh and 8 silkie eggs

I am using a still air incubator with automatic egg turner

llWell got 2 is all of my LOs and one has a star pip but not sure if it was like that on day 22 yesterday or not Left the eggs in in case as there is no reason they shouldbnt hatfch although 4 iwrote on it as like 36 degrees out when i collected them and they were cold.
BUT not all...first chick out is doing fine it seemed....... but putting them in the brooder i noticed he has what i thought was an enlarged vent.On closer inspection i see its not /.have feeling its his intestines or a belly button hernia ,He is acting totalally normally Anybody know will this dry up ?go inside ?or wiil he die?.I didnt pay a lot of attention when i saw a few ppl had this other hatches and on the outcome.
Its about twice as big as his vent.
